III.     Some truths about our failures:

1.Big failures usually involve many small steps.
2.Worrying is always a sin because it means we are planning without God.
3.When God tests our faith we discover our true values.
4.Our disobedience can poison other people’s lives.
5.Being fearful is not about our external circumstances, but our relationship with Christ.
6.Missed opportunities cannot be brought back, but by God’s grace we can grow through our failures.

 Questions for this week:

 I.  For Starters:

  1. What are some of the great privileges you have been given in life?
  2. How has your faith been most tested over the years? What brought you through the tests? (if you are through them)

II. Overview of Scripture

1.Read Genesis 12 out loud. What is most exciting to you about this chapter? What did you see in this chapter that spoke to you?

 III. Growing deeper

1.  Review Sunday’s message with someone.

2. Since all of us have a bent at times toward disobedience, and since Godly people do fail at times, how do we keep from disillusionment when Godly people we trust do sinful things?

3.  What would cause Abraham to panic during a famine? What are the potential reasons that God’s promises in 12:1-3 to him were not good enough when trouble came knocking?

4.  Discuss how Sarai was part of Abraham’s problem. How did she add to his foolishness and what could she have done?

5.  If you have time, read the following example of compromise. Notice that Jonah’s disobedience greatly affected others. How does that principle often cause problems for us?  (Jonah ch.1).

6. Pray for one another that your walk with Christ would be true and that we would not grow complacent with our spiritual growth.
