Origins: The Destructive Nature of Lying and Greed (Acts 5:1-11)
The dramatic story of Ananias and Sapphira demonstrates just how destructive lying and greed can be. Lies and greed prevent individuals from experiencing the full life Jesus taught about and can cripple the church in its pursuit of its mission. Rather than constructing a false self for others, Jesus followers are to practice a risky honesty. Instead of conforming to a culture of unquestioned consumption and greed, the church is called to be a people known for self-sacrifice.
