God is in Control
These are my outline notes for the sermon.
God is in Control- When Suffering Happens
Romans 5: 3-5
Intro- look around at the sufferings and trials that we are going through now.
God is not surprised- suffering will happen. Trials will come
- There are no limits to time, space, barriers- He knows it all.
1 Samuel 2:3 For the Lord is a God of knowledge…
Psalm 139: 1-4
1 Peter 4: 12, 13, 19 Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery ordeal among you, which comes upon you for your testing, as though some strange thing were happening to you; but to the degree that you share the sufferings of Christ, keep on rejoicing, so that also at the revelation of His glory you may rejoice with exultation… Therefore, those also who suffer according to the will of God shall entrust their souls to a faithful Creator in doing what is right.
Our response- we should praise/ exult
The NLT says to rejoice when we run into problems and trials; the NKJV says to glory. In the Greek it means to rejoice, joy, to make boast!
Not only should be know that it’s a good thing that God is allowing trials to come our way, not only should we have peace and joy, we should boast of it! Not weep, moan, groan, woe is me…
We shouldn’t ignore the problem and pretend it’s not there. We need to face it with joy, peace, and strength. Praise God He’s going to do some work and improve you and your walk. And do some work in you and through you!
I’ll come back to the ignoring problem.
God knows how it’s going to turn out
Daniel Behond, I am going to let you know what will occur at the final period of the indignation, for it pertains to the appointed time of the end.

Twila Paris song- God is in Control
This is no time for fear
This is a time for faith and determination
Don't lose the vision here
Carried away by emotion
Hold on to all that you hide in your heart
There is one thing that has always been true
It holds the world together
God is in control
We believe that His children will not be forsaken
God is in control
We will choose to remember and never be shaken
There is no power above or beside Him, we know
God is in control, oh God is in control
He has never let you down
Why start to worry now?
He is still the Lord of all we see
And He is still the loving Father
Watching over you and me
God is going to use it for his glory
Jer. 29:11 For I know the plans that I have for you, says the Lord. Plans to help you, not to harm you. Plans to give you a hope and a future.
Romans For we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.
We grow from our sufferings
Tribulation (problems and trials) brings about perseverance (endurance)
We don’t reject the problems, or pretend they aren’t there.
Don’t pretend the problem doesn’t exist. Don’t think if you don’t “claim it” that it will go away
Job’s family didn’t return (The Lord gives, the Lord takes away, Blessed be the name of the Lord)
The Leper’s leprosy didn’t disappear
The blind can’t see by pretending
Paul’s Thorn in the flesh didn’t disappear because he tried to pretend it wasn’t there.
The Bible doesn’t say “ignore the Devil and he will flee”. It doesn’t say pretend he isn’t there. It says to RESIST the Devil!
How can you Fight the Good Fight that Paul talks about in 2 Tim 4:7 if you don’t even acknowledge the fight as being there?
We resist them., just as Christ endured the cross, we endure our sufferings.
James Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial, for once he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love Him.
Perseverance brings proven character (strength in character)
Job When he has tried me, I shall come forth as Gold
Character is tested value that finds its ultimate resting place in the presence of God, not in the grave.
Proven character brings hope- confident expectation in our salvation
We know that God is going to answer our prayers, deliver our needs, take care of us- because He’s already done it before, and he’ll do it again.
Hope does not disappoint, because we know how dearly God loves us
