Stewardship Pt. 2

Amen

There was a glitch in the recording and it cut off before the sermon was over.  Below are some of the Scripture passages that Robert mentioned.

Making Money

Deuteronomy 8:18 (ESV) 18You shall remember the Lord your God, for it is he who gives you power to get wealth, that he may confirm his covenant that he swore to your fathers, as it is this day.

1 Thessalonians 4:11 - 12 (NIV) 11Make it your ambition to lead a quiet life, to mind your own business and to work with your hands, just as we told you,  12so that your daily life may win the respect of outsiders and so that you will not be dependent on anybody.

2 Thessalonians 3:11 - 12 (ESV) 11For we hear that some among you walk in idleness, not busy at work, but busybodies.  12Now such persons we command and encourage in the Lord Jesus Christ to do their work quietly and to earn their own living.

Proverbs 14:23 (NIV) 23    All hard work brings a profit, but mere talk leads only to poverty.

Spending Money

Plan your Spending

Proverbs 21:5 (ESV) 5    The plans of the diligent lead surely to abundance,     but everyone who is hasty comes only to poverty.

Take Care of Your Family

1 Timothy 5:8 (ESV) 8But if anyone does not provide for his relatives, and especially for members of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.

Enjoyment

1 Timothy 4:4 (ESV) 4For everything created by God is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving,

Deuteronomy 14:24 - 26 (ESV)   24And if the way is too long for you, so that you are not able to carry the tithe, when the Lord your God blesses you, because the place is too far from you, which the Lord your God chooses, to set his name there,  25then you shall turn it into money and bind up the money in your hand and go to the place that the Lord your God chooses  26and spend the money for whatever you desire—oxen or sheep or wine or strong drink, whatever your appetite craves. And you shall eat there before the Lord your God and rejoice, you and your household.

Get out of Debt and Stay Out of Debt

Proverbs 22:7 (ESV) 7    The rich rules over the poor, and the borrower is the slave of the lender.

Saving Money

Save for a Rainy Day

Proverbs 30:25 (NIV) 25    Ants are creatures of little strength, yet they store up their food in the summer;

Inheritance

Proverbs 13:22 (ESV) 22    A good man leaves an inheritance to his children’s children, but the sinner’s wealth is laid up for the righteous.

Retirement

Proverbs 13:11 (ESV) 11    Wealth gained hastily will dwindle, but whoever gathers little by little will increase it.

Giving Money

Giving should come from your first fruits

Proverbs 3:9 - 10 (ESV) 9    Honor the Lord with your wealth     and with the firstfruits of all your produce; 10    then your barns will be filled with plenty,     and your vats will be bursting with wine.

Giving should be a regular pattern of life
1 Corinthians 16:1 - 3 (ESV) 1Now concerning the collection for the saints: as I directed the churches of Galatia, so you also are to do.  2On the first day of every week, each of you is to put something aside and store it up, as he may prosper, so that there will be no collecting when I come.  3And when I arrive, I will send those whom you accredit by letter to carry your gift to Jerusalem.

Giving should be willing and cheerful

2 Corinthians 9:6 - 8 (ESV) 6The point is this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully.  7Each one must give as he has made up his mind, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.  8And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work.

Giving should be generous
2 Corinthians 8:1 - 4 (ESV) 1We want you to know, brothers, about the grace of God that has been given among the churches of Macedonia,  2for in a severe test of affliction, their abundance of joy and their extreme poverty have overflowed in a wealth of generosity on their part.  3For they gave according to their means, as I can testify, and beyond their means, of their own free will,  4begging us earnestly for the favor of taking part in the relief of the saints

Giving should be sacrificial

Mark 12:41 - 44 (ESV) 41And he sat down opposite the treasury and watched the people putting money into the offering box. Many rich people put in large sums.  42And a poor widow came and put in two small copper coins, which make a penny.  43And he called his disciples to him and said to them, “Truly, I say to you, this poor widow has put in more than all those who are contributing to the offering box.  44For they all contributed out of their abundance, but she out of her poverty has put in everything she had, all she had to live on.”
