No compromise
Firstly Paul addresses the issue of division in the church. If God has given us a ministry of reconciliation tehn we need to be reconciled to each oother. He then addresses the issue of compromise within the Corinthian church. He strongly teaches against the idea that Christians can compromsie on the issue of idolatry. God has made wonderful promises to those who obey Him.

Living for a new master
At Calvary Jesus died for our sins. He dealt with our sinful nature. We are no longer slaves to sin but now alive to God. We have a new master - God Himself.

Marks of ministry
The apostle Paul writes of the many things he has endured as a minister of Christ. He encourages us to endure many hardships. God will supply the strength we need to be overcomers, to break through rather than breakdown. It is as we are equipped by God to press on in this life that we are able to become bridge builders to others as they seek God rather than become road blocks preventing them from meeting God.

Be Reconciled to God
Paul reminds us that we should have great reverence and awe for God. He teaches that God reconciled us to Himself through the atoning work of Jesus on the Cross. We have becoem new creations through the work of Jesus on the Cross and teh Holy Spirit's regenerating work. We have been given the responsibility as ambassadors of Christ to spread the message of reconciliation. The time for spreading the message is now as we do not know when Christ may return.

Confident of a glorious future
Paul encourages us that the suffering we may experience now does not compare with the glorious future God has planned for us. He reminds us that we will all appear before the judgement seat of Christ and what we do now has eternal significance.

Cast down but not conquered
As Christians there are times when we are under pressure, facing hardship and difficulty. We should not see this as unusual. In times of difficulty we find our lord to be an ever-present source of strength and comfort. We are weak but He is mighty. We are: Pressured but not hemmed in Persecuted by men but not abandoned by God At our wits end but not at our hopes end Knocked down but not knocked out God uses our sufferings for His purposes. As we identify with Christ we find: Sharing the life of Christ shares its risks (no cross, no crown) We can draw on a power that is sufficient for life and greater than death Through our suffering we may draw others into the light and love of God
