Charged: What Does the Holy Spirit Do In My Life?

The gift of the Holy Spirit bestowed upon every believer has a profound impact. We are comforted in the fact that we are not alone in this fight (John 14:15-17). We are progressively transformed in the likeness of Christ (sanctification) (Romans 8:28). Our minds are illuminated to biblical truth (1 Corinthians 2:6-16). The Holy Spirit makes a difference in the life of a believer.

How Do I Know I Have the Holy Spirit?

What is the evidence of the Holy Spirit? This is the question that causes so much division. Romans 8:9-7 points to the reality of a changed life as the primary evidence of living in the power of the Spirit. We look for signs and fantastic experiences, but repentance and obedience are primary marks of the presence of the Holy Spirit. What is controlling us, sin or the Spirit? What is being “made right” in the life of the believer? How is sin being mortified? Are we suffering for doing what is right? Are we living like a child of God?

Who Is the Holy Spirit?

The Holy Spirit is 100% God. He is part of the triune God. The Holy Spirit was not created, but is eternal, all-powerful, and omnipresent. The Holy Spirit is also the life giver. We have the Holy Spirit through Christ and therefore new life in Christ. The Holy Spirit not only is the one who brings life, but is also the source of power we need to live our new life in Christ. The Holy Spirit is God, he is the life giver, and he is the power by which the believer lives.

The Reality of the Resurrection

Heaven is a place prepared so that, through Christ; you can spend eternity with him. Jesus is in Heaven now, sitting at the right hand of the Father. This is the reality of the resurrection. We can throw off the sin that entangles us, be given life in Christ, and live the life God created for us. In Christ we are made new and all things will be made new. One of the last things Jesus told his disciples is that he will return. This is also the last message we read in the Bible. “Come, Lord Jesus!” What will we do between the resurrection of Christ and the reality of His return? Follow Jesus!
