In business, there are three levels of functional business competency: functional, managerial, and business competency. The last is the highest: knowing what makes the business run. God wants us to know how the Kingdom runs:

I. God works through our obedience, vs. 5,6. All the leaders mentioned (Apollos, Cephas, Paul) were obeying God, not drawing attention to themselves. In our work for Christ, we are all one, we are part of one body. However, when we stand before God, we stand as individuals.

II. God works through our choices (v 12). What would they use to build on that foundation? Gold? Silver? Hay? Straw? There are energies constantly testing what we are doing. "Our God is a consuming fire."

III. God works to the point we are together (v16). Church is not a building or land, but people. We must treasure our relationships with our brothers and sisters in Christ. "No more boasting" about what man has done. "All things are yours . . . and you belong to Christ." God is using all things in our lives to be a blessing. We are the treasure of Christ (all of us are a blessing to Christ), and Christ is of God (Christ came to glorify God).
