Why Missions?

Why is the Church involved in Missions? Missions is not an emergency but an urgency. Five inescapable realities:
1. We have a relationship to be treasured. There was a trust in the relationship Jesus had with His disciples. He trusted His followers to do as He told them. Judas violated that trust (Last Supper, John 13). The things that are important to God need to be important to us.
2. We have a commission to be obeyed. The Church exists not to do the will of an individual, group or government. The Church exists to preach the Gospel, baptize believers, and make disciples.
3. We have a great responsibility to be fulfilled. II Corinthians 5: He has committed to us the message of reconciliation.
4. We have a fact that we must face (Romans 10): we need to communicate the truth (someone needs to tell), communication leads to knowledge, which leads to understanding, which produces faith, which leads to salvation.
5. This is an opportunity to be embraced -- William Shepherd was a missionary to the Congo who took advantage of an opportunity to minister to people.
The Church has the answer to what ails the world. There is more than enough in Jesus Christ.
