Urban Jesus, Part 3 (1 Corinthians 1:10-31)
In our portion of Scripture this week, Paul addresses the issue of the cross. In fact, many commentators would say that the scriptures found in vs. 18-25 are some of the best writing on a theology of the cross in the entire body of the Old and New Testaments. Paul is concerned to draw the attention of the church back to the cross and to keep it there because he knows that it is only through the cross that we are the church.

Urban Jesus, Part 1 (1 Corinthians 1:1-31)
The city changes you. In many ways the city becomes you and you become the city. The church at Corinth allowed the city to change them, even their view of God. Paul writes the first few chapters of I Corinthians focused on the person of Christ and how Jesus should change even how we live in the city. Urban Jesus is a study on how city dwellers should be transformed by the Gospel of Jesus even more than their city.

The Evolution of a Wholistic Social Justice Ministry
Park welcomed Alvin Bibbs, Director of Extension Ministries for Willow Creek Community Church, as our guest speaker. Alvin shared his story of growing up in Cabrini Green and challenged us with a call to bring justice to the city. In this challenging message we were reminded that righteousness is the way we we live and justice is what the Lord requires of us.
