Breath of Praise: Living in Thanksgiving
0 Amens
•1. praise and thanksgiving need to dominate our lives
•a) Through Him then, let us continually offer up a sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of lips that give thanks to His name.(Hebrews 13:15)
•2. praise establishes a canopy to insulate us against the heinous, hellish works of darkness
a) As the second coming of Christ Jesus grows nearer, the enemy is more enraged. (Revelation 12:11-12)
•3. we can sustain the breath of praise
There are three things in the Bible that speak of the constancy of praise:
- The flame of praise (in the O/T tabernacle worship)
- The song of praise (spoken about by David)
- The spirit of praise (as exercised in the life of the Church)
•4. the ceaseless flame is an expression of praise to the lord
•a) Therefore by Him let us continually offer the sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of our lips, giving thanks to His name.(Hebrews 3:15)
b) The OT "type' is saying to us in the midst of it all, keep the flame burning.
•5. the psalms of david illustrate the ceaselessness of praise
a) ... from the rising of the sun to its going down (Ps 113:1-3)
b) In the night-the saints... singing aloud on their beds and His song in the night (Ps 149:5, Ps 42:8)
•6. the spirit of praise is a gift to the believer
a) In 1 Thessalonians 5:17 it says pray without ceasing which is a bewildering command.
- Rejoice always
- in everything give thanks
•b) The ongoing spirit of praise will be transforming and enlarging to us.
c) Becoming a person who tirelessly praises, who "breathes thanksgiving" will:
- Change your character
- Change your circumstances
- Change your countenance
