Nehemiah was outraged by the oppression of some Jews over others. He confronted the oppressors with the words, "Should we not walk in the fear of God?" He was not attempting to level the playing field by getting the oppressors to give back the land and goods which belonged to those who were oppressed. Rather, Nehemiah was concerned about God's reputation and that the city of Jerusalem would be a reproach to the nations.

The application for the New Testament people of God is to recognize where God's people have not walked in the fear of the Lord. Where we have become a reproach because we have not been concerned about those who are oppressed.

 This message moves from the general to the specific connecting the dots from seeing the big picture, to having a mind to work, putting our hand to work, and standing on God's word. Walking in a manner worthy of the gospel is what God expects from us. This is walking in the fear of the Lord and doing everything that is pleasing to the Lord. Citing the injustices in the world, from abortion, economic, racial and moral injustices, Ray passionately pleas for the church to become involved with the world for the Kingdom's sake. Do Justice - Act Redemptively is a word the church needs to hear.
