Pastor Case Vink reminded us that we are better as a whole body than as an solo ear. And Pastor Case reminded us of how to be a good body together - sensitive to each other's needs, gifts, and abilities. Even our past bad experiences can become gifts to us and those around us.
Gideon doubted that he could do what God asked of him -- doubted that he was suffienctly equipped to accomplish the task God assigned him. And God answered by taking away most of Gideon's army and telling him to go ahead into battle, and rely on God to deliver the victory. In other words, God told Gideon to rely less on himself and more on God. This is the same message that God sends us today: We need to rely less on our own abilities and more on God's faithfulness.
Just before church last Sunday two boys came up to me all excited to share with me the results of their “Spiritual Gifts Inventory”. The one young man, who has little or no church background, proudly showed me his document and told me that God had made him in a special way to do special work for Him.
Jonathan discusses the background ("location"), meaning and application of the Parable Of The Talents. He suggests that the talents do not represent our abilities but rather the responsibility we have for those abilities.
