Sermons About Abundance
Fulfillment
Fulfillment. What does it mean to be fulfilled? What does it mean to experience the abundant life, a life that is full and overflowing that is promised by Jesus? Do you ever feel empty and powerless? Do you dream of living a life of fulfillment, a life filled with passion and purpose? In the apostle John’s first letter, he told his hearers that they could know and rely on God to give them His Spirit and His love to empower their lives to fulfill His purpose for them — that they would be like Him. We can know and rely on God’s Spirit and love to empower us to fulfill His purpose.

Who Gets the "Leftovers"?
Jesus reaches out, beyond the nation of Jews, beyond the religious, beyond the law-abiding, beyond the proper, and preaches love your neighbor as yourself. He extends “loving neighbor” to include love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you (Matt. 5:44)—to include tax collectors and even the despised Samaritans—to include us, no matter our sins or our failings. No one is a leftover in God’s eyes. Everyone is loved. Everyone is special. We’re all chosen people. Jesus carries forward the promise God made again and again: to take care of the needy, no matter who they are or what their need is, for all are children of God, and Jesus does love all of us. Jesus' humanity gives us hope that our own humanity can rise to the level of his—that we can learn God’s will and grow in understanding and in the ability to surrender to God’s will—that what we are today is only a beginning for what we can become. In these ways, God’s realm will keep expanding, through us, just as God’s mercy keeps extending out and out and out, so that none are left out or left-over, except those who choose not to come in. “There’s a wideness in God’s mercy” for us all. Thanks be to God!

That They May Have Life
"Why did Jesus come?" It's an important question, and many times Jesus told us why. Through December we have been looking at some of the statements Jesus made about his mission. In this sermon we think about some more of Jesus' words we don't normally associate with Christmas. In John 10:10b, when Jesus was speaking to some of the Pharisees, he said: " I came that they may have life and have it abundantly." What kind of life? Who gets it? How can we know it is true?

Philippians 4:15-23 - Getting the Best Return on Your Investment
An Abundance mentality is a frame of mind in which a person believes there is "enough for everyone". It is contrasted with the scarcity mentality, which is founded on the idea that there is a lack in life, that opportunities are few and far between and given a finite amount of resources a person must protect what they have from others, This is, of course, useful for marketing because if you can convince people they are lacking something, then you can get them to buy that something. Clearly this is what our society is built upon. And Christians who have fallen prey to this mentality - to put it bluntly - are pathetic-lousy givers - not only in how much they give but in how they give. On the contrary, those Christians who have an abundance mentality have a contentment and a joy about giving that is alien to our society. It is this type of mentality that Paul had and also the type of mentality the Philippians had and it is they type of mentality we are to have as well. When we have an abundance mentality we rise above our circumstances - whether we have little or plenty. We are able to give sacrificially and faithfully and experience immense joy as we do it because we understand what we're really doing - we're investing wisely. We're giving as joint owners in the mission of Jesus.

Abraham, Righteous and Chosen or Money Grubbing Sinner?
With all the attacks on the prosperity message, we have to examine the scriptures to see what God thinks about it. According to some misguided people, money is evil. They also think that there’s something wrong with the people that have it. They definitely think there’s something wrong with people that want more money. With this line of thought in mind, we examine Abraham, the father of Israel. He was extremely wealthy. Money is just a tool. God told him that He was going to bless him so that he would be able to be a blessing to all the nations of the world. We are to be blessed, like Abraham, so that we can be a blessing to the world as well.
