The World's view of the Christian Faith: in Jesus' Day, Paul's, and Today
In John's Gospel, the Cleansing of the Temple comes at the beginning of Jesus' ministry. In the other Gospels it comes at the end. John's point is that right at the beginning, Jesus was in conflict with the Religious leaders at his day. To put it mildly, they thought Jesus was crazy. Paul faced a similar challenge with the Gospel (Romans 7:13-25). The Gospel as centered in the Work of Christ on the cross was challenged by Jews, Greeks, and Gentiles. The Jews demanded a sign though given many were never satisfied. The Greeks relied on their intellect and logic. The Cross made no sense to them or the rest of the Gentile world. The question for us is it any different today? How does the world today judge the Christian Faith?
