The Church of Thyratira: Revelation 2:18-28
In America, most of us have not been physically threatened for our faith. However, like the church at Thyratira, I would argue that most of our greatest temptations to compromise stem from either economic or social pressures. The church today is radically tempted to compromise by valuing the same things that the culture around us values. We serve a God who calls us to consider everything rubbish in order that we might gain Christ and be found in him. We cannot cling to the values of this world and still hold fast to the righteousness of our savior. Jesus offers us himself. Jesus calls us live lives of repentance, constantly letting go of our sin and clinging to his blood, shed on the cross for our sin, to forgive us and give us his perfect righteousness.

Lampstands – the church is to give out light, not to produce its own light. 2. These were seven real churches. 3. These churches are representative of the Christian church – relevant for today. 4. There are continual spiritual lessons. 5. There is clear structure to these letters. Are we prepared to examine ourselves as we go through these letters?

The Back-Story of Jesus
The first chapter of Luke gives us the background or back-story of Jesus. We find out the historical setting, and we meet an important godly couple (Zechariah & Elizabeth) who (though Elizabeth was barren) had a very special son named John. Elizabeth's cousin, Mary of Nazareth, is visited by the angel Gabriel and finds out that she (an unmarried woman) is going to become pregnant (not through human means) with a son that is going to fulfill all of the Old Testament promises! Through this back-story, we learn that God gives mercy to the humble, always keeps His promises, and sends salvation through Jesus.

Through the Eyes of the Shepherds
In our culture it has become glaringly obvious that Christmas is more about the "stuff" and less about the Son. How is it that so many people lose focus on what this holiday is all about? Maybe it's because in the hustle and the bustle of the season no one slows down enough to remember the story. Join us in December as we look at the greatest story ever told, through the eyes of the participants.
