Sermons about Anyone
A couple of weeks ago, we considered Peter’s three denials of Jesus. We remember his anguish upon the hearing of the rooster crowing, because Jesus had prophesied of these denials. Today, we return to that story, but see the renewal of commitment. In Peter’s story we are reminded that God loves to give a second chance.
Jesus says “Listen! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and have dinner with him, and he with Me.”
What's the best invitation you have ever received? This week Pastor Jeremy argues that this is the greatest invitation because of 1) who the invitation is given by, 2) who it is given to, 3) what we're invited to, 4) what the invitation requires, and 5) what it promises to those who come!
Jesus is alive; He is not just a figure in history. And He calls us to follow Him. “If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.” Who does He call? Anyone! We are talking about the radical inclusive call of Jesus to follow. Anyone means everyone. Anyone means you.
Would you say that the church is open to “anyone”? Do we always buy into the notion that the church should be for just “anyone”? If it was required, would we be open to making some necessary changes so that others could experience the church as being open to “anyone”?
