Empty Shelves At the Grocery Store
Instead of pointing our fingers at God and blaming Him for the struggles that we and others face, let us commit to acknowledging that bad things happen as a result of sin. God is love, and He can have nothing to do with sin. He did not create it and He cannot endorse it. Let us endeavor to dedicate our lives to Him and seek His Face. Let others see our faith and come to God in humility and gratitude.

We are continuing to build a foundation to more properly understand eschatology. This week we began to look some at the historical background of Revelation in particular. Would it surprise you if a document exists that sheds a great amount of insight into some of the pressures facing the seven churches of Asia Minor?

Last week one of the things we learned was how the Bible defines "the last days" - and it is quite different than how they are commonly talked about in our culture. Yet does this matter? This week, among other things, we will look a bit at how science and movies view "apocalyptic" things. Whether we realize it or not, talk about "the end" is nothing new. We will also look at the importance of a little word called genre and how it impacts reading and understanding the Bible.

When Jesus talks to His disciples about the "close of the age", His emphasis is more on the 'why' of such knowledge, rather than the 'when'.
The Worshipping Church (Revelation)
The book of Revelation gives a clear picture of God's ultimate justice and Jesus' victory over evil. John blends epistle, prophecy, and apocalyptic literature for a whirlwind depiction of Jesus' reign, return, and consummation of the world. While Revelation can does offer insight into the future, its greater import is providing encouragement to present church. The book likewise provides the greatest hymn (Holy, Holy, Holy is the Lamb) and prayer (Come, Lord Jesus, come) God's beloved will ever know. Thus, until the return of Jesus, God's beloved are to worship him while waiting.
