Sermons About Apostles
Rejoicing In Suffering
Most Christians living in the United States and in Western nations don't realize that over 200 million Christians around the world face persecution. But this persection is not unlike the persecution that was faced by the apostles, for it was caused by the same societal and cultural dynamics that are in play today. The verses in Acts 5 illustrate how the state responded to the burgeoning growth of the early church by enacting and enforcing no-witnessing laws. This marked the 'second wave' of persecution that overtook the early church and it resulted in great resurgence of its numbers. Through history we have seen that persecution is the most prolific means used by the Lord to grow His church and in Acts 5:12-42 we see how the apostles responded in the face of such persecution. This serves as a powerful example of how Christians today should respond to contemporary circumstances. God continues to show the world that no one under Heaven will silence the gospel of Jesus Christ!
