Sermons About Baptism
New Beginnings
Through baptism, we are sons and daughters of God, through faith in Christ (Gal. 3:26). Christ came to John for baptism and in so doing forever changed the meaning of baptism for the rest of us. In baptism, we are claimed as heirs in the Kingdom of God and grafted into the body of Christ. This sermon was followed by a congregational reaffirmation of baptism.

Watershed
Our baptisms are our own dividing line. Like Jesus consented to God’s claim on his life and began his journey living into God’s plan for his life, our baptisms signify our acceptance of a life of active discipleship.

Torn Apart
Jesus' baptism marked him as God's chosen Servant to fulfill all righteousness, setting him on the path of servanthood that would lead to his coronation upon the cross. As the heavens were torn apart at Jesus' baptism, so when our lives are torn apart God enters into our brokenness and comes to us. By the grace given in that cleansing water of regeneration, we are declared God's beloved children. The tearing of the heavens which took place at Jesus' baptism would lead to another tearing on the day Jesus died. The curtain of the temple was torn in two and the separation between God and man was now bridged by Christ's atoning death.

How Were You Baptized?
Pastor Joanne's sermon for today, "How Were You Baptized?" is taken from the New Testament Scriptures of Acts 19:1-7. We believe in one baptism. A baptism is an outward sign that has already taken place in our hearts. It is to show our brothers and sisters our commitment to Jesus Christ

Remember Who You Are (Mark 1:4-11)
In Jesus’ baptism, we have a picture of our baptism: the calling, claiming, confirming grace of God.

Victory in Jesus
" 18For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive in the spirit, 19in which he went and proclaimed to the spirits in prison, 20because they formerly did not obey, when God’s patience waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was being prepared, in which a few, that is, eight persons, were brought safely through water. 21Baptism, which corresponds to this, now saves you, not as a removal of dirt from the body but as an appeal to God for a good conscience, through the resurrection of Jesus Christ, 22who has gone into heaven and is at the right hand of God, with angels, authorities, and powers having been subjected to him." 1 Peter 3:18-22

Ordinance of Baptism
As a wedding ring symbolizes the marriage relationship to my wife so does Baptism in obedience to Christ.

That Which is Born of Flesh
This message was preached for the first Sunday of Advent and reflects on the fallen nature of humanity using Nicodemus as a great example of one who is sincere but misguided in his religion. Jesus points out to him that it is not through heritage, relationship or zeal for righteousness that men are justified, but by faith in Christ! He tells him that he "must be born again." indicating that it is not merely human effort that is required but a new kind and quality of life given to us by God Himself!
