What Child Is This
Every Christmas we focus on baby Jesus laying in a manger. However, it has become imperative that we understand who that Jesus was in the manger. Some say he was the greatest prophet who ever lived. Others say he was the angel Micheal come to earth. Still others say he was God incarnate. Does this really matter? Are we just quibbling over details? Let's answer that question which the hymn raises What Child is This.

Matthew 3:13-17 (AM)
Adam continues through Matthew, preaching 3:13-17. Matthew presents four marvels that announce Jesus to be the Messiah--Jesus came to be baptized, John tried to stop Him, the Spirit came from heaven, and the Father spoke. The Messiah was associated with the remnant, anointed by the Spirit, and announced by the Father.

Matthew 3:1-12 (AM)
Adam continues in Matthew 3. Verses 1-12 present the revelation of, rebuke from, and reasons for John's ministry. John demanded true repentance in order to prepare Israel for the Messiah's coming, a demand still put on those who would receive the Messiah today.

Why does the harvest perish?
Complacent Christians can become numbed with the pleasures and conveniences of this world. The Word of the Lord, through the prophet Joel, is applied in this sermon to the present-day believer who is not minding the work of the Lord as he should.

1 Peter 3:18-22 - Christian Baptism: A Comfort and Assurance in the Day of Suffering
The Christian’s baptism then is a source of great comfort. It is not a comfort because it is seen as some saving ritual. Baptism is a comfort because it reminds us that we are united with Jesus in his death, his resurrection and his reign in glory. We can be certain that we will be blessed when we suffer for righteousness’ sake, because as believers our destiny is united with Jesus Christ. If Jesus has the victory over evil spirits, then he certainly will have the victory over those who persecute us now.
