The Beginning of Mark's Gospel
Who was the man named Jesus from Nazareth? Was he really the Son of God? Why was he rejected and killed? Did he really come back to life? If He's alive today, what does it look like to follow Him? These are the questions burning at the heart of Mark's Gospel. Join us as we explore the answers to these questions and see what it means, perhaps for the first time, to know and follow Jesus Christ, the Son of God.

The Epicenter
Why is our world all messed up? Why are there all these natural disasters? Why is there war? Why is there disease? Why do I sometimes feel lost and hopeless? Why? All of these questions will be talked about during this series. Once sin entered into God's creation here on earth in Eden everything became broken. The creation was broken. God's image in us was broken. Our relationship with God was broken. We are each born broken. Is there any hope? Can anyone fix this brokenness? Sin originated in eternity past before creation when Satan rebelled against God, but sin had no effect on earth or mankind until Genesis 3. Sin's epicenter is the moment that man believed Satan's lie that God was against him and not for him.

Roots - Abraham: A New Beginning
In Genesis chapter 12, God begins a conversation with Abraham about blessing. This blessing was about more than God just causing him to prosper. God blessed Abraham so that others could be blessed. It's the beginning of God putting his family back together and repairing the brokenness we see in the world. God is a promise making and promise keeping God. This promise is eventually fulfilled in Jesus.

The Feast That Never Ended
There is something refreshing about going back to beginnings. In Acts chapters 1-7 we learn about the earliest days of the church. Chapter two is particularly striking as we learn about God’s gracious gift to the church, Peter’s proclamation of the gospel, and for what the early church was known. Today in the Word, we will consider the event of Pentecost, Peter’s important explanation about what God was doing. As you listen to the reading and hear the Word explained today, ask God to renew your faith and fill you with His Holy Spirit. Pentecost Sunday In the Christian year today is a celebration of the coming of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost (Acts 2). The season of Pentecost celebrates the work of the Spirit in our lives. The Holy Spirit is not an “it” but a Person of the Trinity and the strength of Christ in the church. He draws us to Jesus. He convicts us of sin. He persuades and enables us to believe. He unites us with Christ and mediates the presence of Jesus to us, bringing all the benefits of salvation to our souls. He gives gifts. He leads. He fills. He comforts. He brings forth spiritual fruit. And the Spirit always seems to throw the floodlight back onto Christ.

Beginnings
This time of year graduates go through commencement, which marks a beginning to a new stage in life. Every new beginning is a chance to respond in faith. Forgiveness is a new beginning and repentance is an act of faith, as is putting new insight into practice.
