Sermons About Belief
Freedom Through Faith
As we have seen in recent weeks, Paul’s letter to the church in Rome is an extended explanation of many aspects of freedom which believers in Christ experience through faith. We often assume that we know what faith is, but do we? It certainly involves belief, but it also involves something less tangible yet equally important. Additionally, it involves something more tangible but also vitally important. Because faith involves more than mere belief, its opposite is not merely unbelief, but something experienced by the prophet Elijah (this morning’s reading from the Old Testament book of 1 Kings) and by the apostle Peter (this morning’s reading from the Gospel of Matthew). Our message this morning will touch on all these aspects of the gift of faith.

Touching Jesus
This sermon looks at the famous accout of the woman with the blood issue. Jesus was on his way to heal Jarius daughter when someone ran up through the crowd and touched his the hem of his garment. It is a story of faith, desperation, humility, and miralces. We can learn so much from this woman, her situation, and how she finally solved all her problems, by touching Jesus in Faith.

Made Right With God (Romans 5:18-19)
All men are born in Adam and inherit original sin which brings enmity with God. How does one become right with God? We cannot make ourselves righteous. By faith in Christ, we are imputed the righteousness of Christ. Adam's sin was imputed to all men, those who have faith in Christ have their sin imputed to Christ and Christ's righteousness imputed to them.

From Adam to Christ (Romans 5:12-14)
Adam and Christ both represented groups of people. Adam represented all humanity and through him we all sinned and die. Christ represents all those who believe in Him, and through him we have obeyed and live. It may seem unfair that Adam's sin be counted as our own, but it is equally "unfair" that Christ's righteousness be counted as ours. By grace through faith in Christ, salvation is offered to all of Adam's descendants.

Our Missionary God (Matthew 9:35-38)
Matthew reminds us in this text that Jesus is a missionary God who cares about the glory of His Father, the belief of the nations, and in his ministry - a love for the lost.

A Learning Community
These days, there is an appetite for spirituality and a huge distaste for "church." Is this really what God wanted? The church was intended to be a dynamic, life-giving movement of people who experience and extend the love of God together. In fact, Jesus said that you can't be spiritual on your own, that the spiritual life is something we do together. If you catch a glimpse of God's dream for doing life together, we are convinced you'll never want anything less.
