The fault of much Christianity today is that it has left out the importance of the mind and has merely appealed to people’s emotions or their "felt needs." The emphasis on experience instead of sound reasons for faith has seriously hindered the church’s witness in our time. The Christian faith is reasonable and therefore we must reason with people using the truth of Scripture. Paul would later write in 2 Corinthians 10:4-5, "For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ."
Following God’s judgment of the “great” nation of Babylon, now comes its utter devastation. As a result, the Jewish exiles being help in oppression in Babylon will be able to return to their homeland, both forgiven and redeemed.
The Bible is our foundational text. We learn about Jesus Christ when we study the Bible together. But the Bible is also mysterious and sometimes divisive. We fight over different interpretations. What do we mean when we call the Bible the inspired Word of God?
How To Read And Understand The Bible
I am often asked, “How long does it take you to prepare your sermons?” My usual answer is “I am always preparing sermons.” Now, understand, there are definite times when I don’t want to be interrupted and I am in my study. But, there is also that sense that I am always working on the message. This has been especially true in my preparation for the message today: “How Do We Know the Bible is God’s Word?”
