Sermons About Birth
Behind Enemy Lines
"Incognito, under the cover of darkness, the king of kings stole into town; disguised as an infant..." - Philip Yancey. "It is John's Spirit-appointed task to supplement the work of Matthew and Luke so that the nativity can not be sentimentalized into coziness, nor domesticated into drabness, nor commercialized into worldliness....this is not the nativity story we grew up with, but it is the nativity story all the same. Jesus' birth excited more than wonder, it excites evil...." - Eugene Peterson. "Open war is upon you...whether you would risk it or not" - Aragon (Lord of the Rings)

Advent Conspiracy - Joy
This week we focus on the Joy of Advent by investigating why God sent angels to the shepherds to announce the birth of Jesus. The shepherds were irreligious, unworthy, untrustworthy, and unclean. And yet God made sure that people who were outsiders know that this was good news for them too. Being a dispenser of God's grace is the completion of joy in our lives.

The Story of Christmas is the Story of a New Birth
Third week in Advent. We light the Shepherds candle or faith. We remember, we celebrate the coming of God himself into his broken world to set things right. With the coming of Christ is the coming of a new creation, new birth, and a new community. Jesus, the eternal Word who created all things came near to recreate you. He does this through the “shine†display of his goodness and glory. The thing about the light of life that comes in Christ is that it forces and response that determines your relationship.

Song of Joy
The Bible tells us that the first Christmas brought good news of great joy. Those who doubted regained faith. Those who felt small received blessing. Those who were overlooked found peace. Those who waiting for something big to come along, celebrated. We believe Christmas still brings good news of great joy. Come, celebrate with us.
