Preacher: Pastor Tony Simpson. Passage: Phillipians 2 vv14-16. Working out our salvation is not something done only by individuals, but we do so together as a fellowship of God's people. The way we relate to one another, especially our attitude, is to be based on Jesus' example, which means no complaining and arguing but a pursuit of godliness in every way. This is important especially as we are tasked with holding out the word of life, the gospel, to a needy world who must see that the gospel of Jesus has changed our lives.
Paul is longing for the Thessalonians, wishing he could come to visit them and encourage them in their faith. Since he is not able to, he has been praying that God would do a great work in them, making them more and more like his Son, Jesus, perfecting them for the day when Jesus returns to gather his church to himself forever.
Putting Jesus first begins with being reconciled to Him through faith.
