Sermons About Broken
Rebuilding a People
From our childhood, people are drawn to the art and science of building. Erector sets, Lincoln logs, Duplo blocks and LEGO have captured the affection of generations. Eventually everything that has been built will ultimately need to be rebuilt (including people). In Nehemiah Chps. 7 & 8 we see that God's plan for Nehemiah an for us is to be involved with the rebuilding of broken people. Jesus -"All you ever do...is change the old for New" (from the worship song My Glorious)

The Stewardship of Relationships
Stewardship is often equated only with money, but it is so much more. Christian stewardship is "the free and joyous activity of the child of God, and of God's family, the church, in managing all of life and life's resources for God's purposes." Certainly the gift of relationships is one of life's greatest blessings and most valuable resources. In a world where relationships with family, friends, neighbors, and co-workers are often fractured and me-centered, how do we reclaim God's original purpose and design for life? How do we reclaim the stewardship of relationships? The gift of grace and forgiveness in Jesus Christ is our starting point as He calls us to become like little children in order to enter the kingdom of God.

The Aftershock in Our Lives
It is easier to see and feel the impact of sin collectively when we see the news, but many times it is easy to admit our own brokenness. Many times we are willing to admit that the world is messed up but unwilling to admit our own lives are messed up. So we begin a masquerade to cover the brokenness and hide our pain. We do different things to impress different people and sometimes even in an attempt to impress God. We are afraid to admit our own brokenness because it would mean we are needy. We are ashamed to admit our own brokenness because it makes us feel dirty; but the reality is that only when we admit our brokenness can we find healing and can God through Jesus Christ put our lives back together again.

The Impact On Humanity
Sin's effect can be easily seen collectively as a large mass of humanity. It is easy to see sins effect there isn't it? Suicide bombers, war, greed, disease, divorce, murder, etc. Why do all these things happen? If God is in control then why doesn't He stop all of this stuff? If God is good then why does He allow pain and suffering? Just like an earthquake Adam's original sin became the epicenter of an event that will be felt until Christ comes back and defeats sin once and for all. In reality Adam's sin became a chain reaction that set off quakes every since then in each of us. The reality is that each of us are epicenters of this violent event and the effects of that are seen collectively as the tremors ring out around us.

The Impact on Creation
When we watch or read the news and hear about all of the natural disasters like tsunamis, hurricanes, tornadoes, earthquakes, etc. we sometimes wonder why. Why does God allow these things to happen. Sometimes we even blame God for their occurrence. Is there any other explanation? Why do they many times seem to be more and more frequent and even more severe? Is it all natural causes? How God lost control? Are they God's judgment on wicked people? When sin entered into God's creation here on earth it was like dropping a very large rock in the middle of a small pond. Adam, the point of impact, was not the only one affected; but the ripples began being felt throughout all creation including nature.

The Epicenter
Why is our world all messed up? Why are there all these natural disasters? Why is there war? Why is there disease? Why do I sometimes feel lost and hopeless? Why? All of these questions will be talked about during this series. Once sin entered into God's creation here on earth in Eden everything became broken. The creation was broken. God's image in us was broken. Our relationship with God was broken. We are each born broken. Is there any hope? Can anyone fix this brokenness? Sin originated in eternity past before creation when Satan rebelled against God, but sin had no effect on earth or mankind until Genesis 3. Sin's epicenter is the moment that man believed Satan's lie that God was against him and not for him.

Roots - Abraham: A New Beginning
In Genesis chapter 12, God begins a conversation with Abraham about blessing. This blessing was about more than God just causing him to prosper. God blessed Abraham so that others could be blessed. It's the beginning of God putting his family back together and repairing the brokenness we see in the world. God is a promise making and promise keeping God. This promise is eventually fulfilled in Jesus.
