Sermons About Building
More Than a Carpenter
This is our ninth sermon working through the vision of our church plant. This week we'll consider how God designed the church to be a place where people from any and every background find peace with God and one another. We'll consider specifically how the people of God are metaphorically described as a building, the new temple of God.

Living Stones
Solomon was amazed at God’s gracious condescension in dwelling among His people in a temple built by men. So much more gracious, now, is the presence of God being resident in the believer, “living stones” that make up the “spiritual house” (v. 5) that Jesus is building. Peter goes further to identify believers as a “holy priesthood” that offer up “spiritual sacrifices” (v. 5) acceptable to God by Jesus Christ. The great truth Peter states here is that “through(by) Jesus Christ” every Christian is part of a new priestly order with full access to God, a ministry in which to function, and something to offer to God and His Church

Building and Battling
Though the community may provide personal blessings and more, the Christian community is intended to reflect a new way of being human to this world. We are to be an alternate city within San Diego, where we are demonstrating what a truly human society looks like. We are more than a support group for individuals; rather we as individuals are to gather together into a community and put on display what a society looks like when it is transformed by the Gospel. Simply, we are a counter-culture.

Body Builder’s
The Apostle Paul makes it very clear in Ephesians 4:11 - 16 that God’s mandate for all believers is to build up the Body of Christ and to equip the saints for the work of ministry. As we will discover in this morning’s message, however, God’s method for accomplishing this is through community - a community that is evidenced in the Trinity and was perpetuated by man being created in God’s image. The force of evil around us is determined to either destroy this community or to offer unsatisfying counterfeits. We see the manifestations of this in the rate of divorce and the breakup of families. We see it on an even larger scale in civil strife and war around the world because Satan hates unity! Today’s message will take us back to God’s original blueprint for personal and corporate growth among His people. You will also be challenged to become part of a small group where, in a large church, you can know and be known by others; where you can be authentic and have some of your deepest needs met through love and prayer; and where you can be accountable together according to God’s standard.
