mary is confronted by gabriel and told her womb will become a "holy of holies" for the messiah. what becomes evident is the place of tension she finds herself in. she is given an incredible privilege to be the mother of jesus but also an incredible detriment. this tension is where we find ourselves when called to follow jesus. the question becomes will we respond like mary or like countless others?
