Sermons About Calm
All is Not Calm, All is Bright
If anyone tells you that following Jesus is all smooth sailing, (health, wealth, complete victory now), don’t believe them. Exhibit A: the life of Christ. Exhibit B: the life of Paul and the Apostles. Exhibit C: Paul’s journey from Caesarea to Rome. You could call chapter 27 “The Disastrous Voyage.” Today in the Word we follow Paul on his journey to proclaim the gospel to Rome, the center of the world. This chapter reminds us of the inevitable storms in life, and also of the watch- care of the Lord over His people. Because of these two realities, we can modify the words of the classic Christmas carol, and say, “all is [not] calm, all is bright.”

Around the Throne
Spring does in some ways give us hope. Today as we look into Revelation 7 we will see a vision of real, true hope. Last week Pastor Mark unpacked Revelation 6 and the beginning of chapter 8. Those chapters speak of death, war, famine - like being stuck on hold watching only negative stories on the evening news. Our cry today is the same as when Revelation was written: "How long Lord? Who can stand it?" It leaves us feeling like all hope has been yanked out by the roots. In Revelation 7 we see a completely different picture. Right in the middle of this crazy mess, everything seems to go calm and we see a vision of a future with no more hunger, no more thirst, no more tears. Wow! Isn't this something we need to share with the neighbours around us? Key Passage: Revelation 7:9-10

I Can Do The Extraordinary
With the goal of allowing the power of God to help us be the people He calls us to be, I have to believe Him when He says it can be done. I can do what seems impossible and impractical by the impact of God in my life. When we say "Yes I Can" to God, He can use us to calm the storms in the disturbed waters of life.
