Jesus, you're fired?
I think we would all agree with the following statement: 'The one true Good Shepherd is Jesus', but did Jesus shepherd/pastor like our modern day pastors? What would it really be like if Jesus was our church pastor today? Jesus did things, went places, connected with fringe people, taught things like no one else. How would we respond if Jesus did those things today as our pastor? Would we as a church embrace the unexpected challenge of a whole new life or would we fire Jesus as our pastor? Honestly just how would you and I deal with Pastor Jesus? Key Passage: Luke 15:1-7

Counterassaults on the Church Part 1: Destroy the Church By Force
One of the dangers in looking backwards (as we are in our study of the book of Acts) is that we tend to romanticize the past. We have a very selective, even idyllic view of things that happened and we forget the hard things. That is especially true with the church. Christians often think that everything was wonderful and easy in those early years. Yet as we carefully read the book of Acts, we find all kinds of challenges. But most of all, we find a counterassault against the church by the enemy of Christ. In Acts chapters 4-6, Satan is only named once, but he is behind a threefold assault on the existence and mission of the church. Today in the world we will look at his first counterassault—the assault of persecution. Unfortunately, this story is not “long ago and far away” because we are now living in the greatest age of persecution. So why did it happen? How did they respond? And how did they pray?

Our Challenge And Calling
A lot of people first open their hearts up to spiritual life, and to Christ in particular, because something happens or something comes alive within them that creates a longing, a desire for spiritual life. People turn to Christ because they want forgiveness or fulfillment or help with some struggle. And Christ invites us to come with all of those issues and find life and friendship with God through Him. But what we discover when we come to him is that he wants us not only to receive forgiveness but to begin to follow him in our lives. He calls us to join him on a mission that is a big part of our purpose for life.
