The Power to Change
Steve Capper, Director of Mission Houston, shares how developing an intimate relationship with God and living in community with other believers are the primary tools God uses to change us. And when we are changed by God, we will profoundly change our world.

Getting People to Take Their Medicine
It has been said that the church is to be a hospital for sinners, not a museum for saints. If the church is a hospital, what kind of medicine does it offer and how can it persuade patients to take it? Just as in every area of life, Jesus is our example here. He excelled in getting people to hear and accept what God had to say to them. He led many people to complete change and healing. What was his secret weapon? Key Verses: Lk 5:27-32, Matt 28:18, Lk 7:36-39, Matt 19:16-22, Eph 2:8-12, John 16:7-14, Lk 19:1ff, 1John 4:8

The Test of Change
Change is hard. In fact, it is so hard that most people never change, at least for the better. They simply do not want to do the hard work necessary to bring about lasting change. Yet we must understand that God’s purpose for our lives is change. He desires biblical change that comes from bringing our lives into subjection to the lordship of Christ in every area. But God is not interested in just any kind of change. He wants to take us from being self-centered people who live for their own satisfaction to the God-centered people who live for the glory of God. And that change will not come easy. It will be the result of many great works of God’s grace in your life that will bring difficulty and testing. Those tests that come from various people and places will be the opportunity to evaluate the change in your life. Only through testing can you see what has really taken place. Is the change just external, something that is easy to show in times of ease? Or will the change hold up under the stress of life?

Why Not Try Prayer?
For change to occur, we have to desire to see it happen. Prayer is God's tool which opens up the avenue to change. If we commit to prayer, we will not stay the same. Develop a daily discipline of being with God in prayer, ask Him to forgive and restore you, and give thanks for all He has done and all He is preparing to do.

Keep the Change
Many people struggle with the very concept of God's love. No matter how many times they hear it, nor how many scriptures they are referred to, they feel unworthy of God's love. This is because they have received some bad theology. They believe they are bad, but that God can change them. Unfortunately, neither of these premises is true-they aren't and He won't. Key Verses: Ro 3:23, Ps 139:11-16, Jer 1:4-5, Gal 1:13-17, 2Cor 5:17, Act 20:22-24, 2Cor 10:12-17

Doing More and Enjoying it Less
RUNNING ON EMPTY “Doing More and Enjoying it Less” Scripture: Isaiah 5:8-10 Who has the final call as to when your plate is too full? (v.8) The truth is, life gets very lonely without margins. (v.8) FOUR TIMES THE “EMPTY” WARNING LIGHT SHOULD COME ON! 1. When relationships close to you, that really matter, begin to suffer. (v.8) 2. When acquiring your dream results in too much compromise. (v.8) 3. When there are no principled boundaries. (v.8) 4. When there is diminished joy. (v.9,10) CAN YOU CHANGE WHAT YOU’RE DOING? (Psalm 32:8,9) 1. GOD ~ “I will instruct you and teach you in the way which you should go.” 2. GOD ~ “I will counsel you with My eye upon you.” 3. Don’t be like the horse or the mule!

Salt and Light
In the eyes of the world, Jesus was a fool. He did not abide by the rules of the day; the people he associated with were shunned by society; his Sermon on the Mount reads like a primer on being left behind, stepped on and ignored. Being a ‘Christian’ is not some magical process by which we are automatically transformed into better people. We must train to become who God wants us to be. We are sinful, faulted beings. Our system fi les are corrupted and we need to reset our systems to the defaults that Christ has demonstrated for us. It begins with the reshaping of our minds ‒ how we think ‒ what we believe ‒ what we know to be true, and then beginning to live out that truth in practical ways in our daily lives. Key Passage: Matthew 5: 1-16

Get Switched

The Origin of the Gospel
People do not change their beliefs or habits easily. When there is a dramatic change in someone’s life it is a powerful testimony for the cause of the change. The Apostle Paul describes how Jesus came down to Earth and revealed Himself to Paul, and this changed Paul from someone who violently persecuted Christians to someone who gave his life to proclaiming the good news about Christ. Paul tells us that the good news that he preaches was given to him directly from God, which means that it is true and can be trusted, and the evidence of change in his life is a convincing testimony to the power of the God who worked this change in his life.

Risky Faith
When was the last time you took a risk for Jesus? I mean something that you could’ve totally failed at and made a fool out of yourself? To be honest, it’s probably been a long time when I did something that fit that category. So what is keeping us from taking more risks for Jesus? How can we address our fears and lack of faith in such a way that we become the kind of risk-taking, faith-stretching followers He’s looking for? Today, we will look at a woman in scripture who set aside her fears and embraced her faith in such a way that her life was dramatically changed. And you will be challenged to step out of your comfort zone to experience what risky faith is all about! Key Passage: 2 Kings 4:1-7

Can We Change?
Perhaps one of the key reasons that so many churches close their doors each year across North America, is because of the inability to adapt or change for the times. One generation founds the church with a passion and mission to impact their community...but without an intentional and regular "re-tuning" of the missional instrument (the church) it can easily fall out of step with the times and places and people it has been called to reach. From the birth of "the church" in Jerusalem nearly 2,000 years ago, the journey of Jesus' family has been one long journey of change and adaptation. The MESSAGE has remained the same (the offer of life through Jesus Christ) but the methods and approaches to ministry have changed again and again. So...what will it take for Willow Park to adapt to the time, place, and culture we live in today? How can we with relevance and authenticity bring the message of Jesus to our generation? Bottom line...Can we Change?
