What does it mean to hear the voice of God? While Samuel was one who heard and responded to the voice of God, Saul was too enamored with the voices of others. In this sermon, we’ll find out how we can know what it means to hear and respond to God.

Loving Jesus
Jesus commands us to love the Lord with all our heart, and with all our soul, and with all our mind. He says that this is the great and foremost commandment. If this is the case than should we not put all our attention and effort toward this one thing? As we close 2007 and look to 2008 we want to fall in love with Jesus more and more. It would be a great goal for 2008 to simply love Jesus more.

What Child Is This
Every Christmas we focus on baby Jesus laying in a manger. However, it has become imperative that we understand who that Jesus was in the manger. Some say he was the greatest prophet who ever lived. Others say he was the angel Micheal come to earth. Still others say he was God incarnate. Does this really matter? Are we just quibbling over details? Let's answer that question which the hymn raises What Child is This.

Water Baptism
Baptism by immersion in water is an important doctrine and practice for God's church. Water baptism is significant because it is a commandment of Jesus; it serves as a picture of our salvation; and because it is a sign of the new covenant that God established through Jesus. Baptism is appropriate for all who have come to faith in Christ and are able to confess that faith, whether they are converted adults or children who have conscious faith in Christ. Baptism is a sign of new birth and not of maturity, so it is right for new believers to seek baptism promptly. The timing of baptism will naturally be uncertain for children, but parents are encouraged to faithfully work to ensure their children understand the gospel. Baptism is appropriate as soon as children are able to articulate the gospel and their personal faith in Jesus.

Living Upside Right in a Upside Down World
In our world we often associate greatness with such things as fame, fortune and influence. The icons and heros of our culture - those whom we esteem and look up to are often athletes, actors and artists. The kingdom of God is radically different for in Matthew chapter 18, Jesus turns our understanding of greatness on its head. In Jesus' mind we are greatest when we humble ourselves like that of a helpless little child. How countercultural! How subversive! Yet, how true for us today! Key Passage: Matthew 18:1-9

Child Evangelism
How should we go about evangelizing children? 1. Don't preach a partial gospel. 2. Do preach the whole gospel. 3. Do teach the demands of the gospel. 4. Don't force a child to "make a decision." 5. Don't rush baptism. 6. Don't give premature or unbiblical assurance of faith. 7. Do express encouragement at signs of the Holy Spirit's working. 8. Do pray and trust God who is gracious and sovereign.
