3 John - Support Missionaries Of Truth
John writes to encourage Gaius, who is walking in truth. Proud, self-centered Diotrephes does not approve of Christian hospitality, nor does he allow anyone else to practice it. It may be that Diotrephes as thrown Gaius out of the church and he has written some pretty nasty things about the Apostle John. But John, focuses on the truth and is pleased that Gaius is walking in the truth. He also promises to bring Diotrephes actions before the church -- it sounds like church discipline.
Going the Second Mile, Part 2
Once you realize that the first mile is being honest, straightforward, and responsible with the little things, the tasks at hand, then the question is... are you ready for the second mile? Have you paid your debts? finished the tasks? kept your word? Are you a profitable servant and steward of the Father's gifts or are you a charlatan, telling all you are a Christian, but really just being a heathen, thereby harming the name of Christ to all who see you not pay your debts, not keep your word, not be a man or woman of moral strength and character?
Enjoying God's People
You turn out just like those who train you. A disciple learns and practices the teachings of the teachers. Every disciple is a Christian and every Christian is a disciple. Discipleship is the process of being trained to live like Jesus. The best way? Connecting to a Godly teacher.
