Why Should I Commit Myself to a Local Church?
Why Should I Commit Myself to a Local Church? Scripture: Ephesians 2:19-22 Three cultural influences robbing the church of commitment 1. A consumer mentality. 2. A renters attitude. 3. A desire for comfort and efficiency. Four important values to check out in a church before making a commitment 1. Does the leadership have a track record of integrity? 2. Does the church have a high view of the inspiration of scripture? 3. Is the church committed to prayer, evangelism and discipleship? 4. Is Jesus present when the church gathers? Four biblical reasons to commit yourself to the church 1. God places us in a church family to get connected. (verse 19) 2. The church is the foundation and connection for spiritual growth. (verse 20,21) 3. It is where God lives by His Spirit. (verse 22) 4. A Christ follower without a church family is an orphan. Welcome to the Maple City family. We invite you to become a member. We have a simple, sincere expression of welcome. “Whom Christ receives we receive†Why? Because the Bible does not make a distinction between requirements in the universal Body of Christ and its local expression. (1 Cor. 12:13) We welcome you even though we may differ on matters of Christian liberty (Rom. 14:1, 3; 15:7) We welcome you on the basis of your faith in Christ, not on whether we agree on all of our doctrine (Acts 18:24-28; Ephesians 4:13) We welcome you on the basis of your life in Christ, not by your former church connections. We welcome and receive you without any partiality. (Eph. 2:11-21; James 2:1-5)
