Leadership Transition: Running with Purpose
Leadership Transition: Running with Purpose Hebrews 12: 1-3 Four important principles to remember during a transition 1. Run the race that is marked out for you - For us 2. Be aware of the sin that gets you so easily tangled up 3. Learn from those who have run the race before us 4. Lets keep our focus and stay on course My personal race What we as a leadership team have discussed so far: 1. We have used the symbol of a relay with the passing on of the baton. 2. The transition would be over a period of time. The timing has not yet been determined but we will be trying to do what is most helpful for the church. 3. We will get an outside consultant to help lead this process. What would my future role be with Maple City Chapel? 1. I will take the role that the leadership team and I believe is the most helpful for the church. What can the church expect from us? 1. We will try to stay current with our communication about the transition process 2. We will process this decision in various layers as we have with past major decisions. 3. Each of you will be given a voice in the final decision. What would we like from you? 1. Pray about this leadership transition process 2. Give us you Spirit led discernment and wise counsel along the way 3. Be patient with us - we have not gone this way before

Appointing Elders
For worldly pursuits, there are many standards applied by which to test candidates for stewardship in those positions. Given this, how much higher should the standards be when considering those who are being considered to keep watch over the souls of those in Christ's church? Titus 1 outlines the biblical standards that should be employed when considering appointment of Elders in the church. The four criteria for selection of Elders are 1) Responsibility, 2) Credibility, 3) Integrity, and 4) Ability. Our church will rise or fall based on the men we choose to lead us!

Paul gave Titus the directive to "appoint elders in each town." This New Testament concept of a team of elders leading a church was well known to the early church. However, 2000 years of history, language barriers, and cultural dynamics have distorted this concept for many Christians. This message wraps up the series on Titus by focusing on the concept of "appointing elders."
