It's not supposed to be easy
Jesus told the way to eternal life is narrow, rocky and hard to find. Why do we expect life to be easy when Jesus clearly shows us it will not. Life as a disciple was never meant to be easy, in fact a life lived to Christ is sure to be the opposite... difficult, yet filled with hope, joy, peace, and life. That is what we are after, it's not supposed to be easy

The Progress of the Gospel
While the Apostle Paul sat in a Roman prison God used his predicament to Progress the Gospel. God uses circumstances to Progress the Gospel in our lives and in the lives of others. As pressure is used to impress an image upon a coin so God uses the pressure of circumstances to press the image, the character of Christ in our lives.

Misperceptions
God's perspective on stress is totally different than our perspective. God is at work in stressful situations even when we don't see it. God goes ahead of us and we don't need to worry but trust in him and that helps eliminate stress.

Exchanging Lies for Truth
The problem with Israel is our own, it is the gap between what we believe in theory and what we believe in practice. I may agree that God is sovereign (theoretical belief), but slip into deep anxiety when I am afraid or out of control (functional disbelief). What it means to grow in grace is to see the gap narrowed between what I confess to be truth and what I functionally believe in the moment. If it’s true that behind every sin is a lie, we are able to find a road out of the rut of despair and the feeling that our emotions and actions are inevitable. Nehemiah is helping us to see the path of hope in hopelessness, joy in the midst of suffering, and courage to fight our shame and disbelief.

They have been living in the Dallas area for over five years and joined The Ridge around three years ago. Matt serves as an elder here at The Ridge and a Biblical Counselor at Hope For The Heart in Dallas where he continues to work on his license as a Professional Counselor. Lindsay serves as a pediatric Nurse at Children's Medical Center in downtown Dallas. As we continue our Sacred Psalms Series today, Psalm 46 will challenge and encourage us with a new perspective on how we view God and ourselves in times of trouble, regardless of our fears or circumstances.

I'll Be Happy When... my Life Circumstances Change
Have you ever told yourself - I'll be happy when such and such circumstances change? I think we all have. But should our happiness be dependent upon our circumstances? Is there a kind of happiness - a joy - that can be found in the midst of even life's most challenging times. The apostle Paul said there is. It's called gospel joy.
