Sermons About Colossians
Jesus Is the Head of the Church
Who is the most important person in the church? It is Jesus. He created the world and redeemed the church so that he might come to have first place in everything. Through creation and reconciliation, he has shown himself to be the one to whom the church must submit.

Dear Church, You Are United In Christ! - Colossians 3:11
Focusing our study in Colossians 3:11 this week, we look at how all Christians are united to eachother in their unity with Christ. (The first ten minutes or so of this sermon were accidentally cut off due to some technical issues. Sorry, folks!)

Big Prayers for One Another
Paul's prayer for the Colossians is a beautiful example of the kind of 'big' prayer that we should be praying consistently for one another, a prayer we can only pray in Jesus' name.

Finding Freedom
The Colossians were being told how to deal with the demands of deity: be spiritual, do this, don't do that, don't eat this, don't touch that, be this kind of person, follow the rules. One thing religion does is try to offer a way to get free of the things that bring us guilt and shame for the things we did or shouldn't have done or things we didn't do that we should have, or things that were done to us that make us feel fearful and inferior and ashamed. Religion is about rules to follow, or ways to get on God's good side or to feel good about yourself as a person. Some religions tell you that you have nothing really to feel guilty or ashamed of because God is such a nice guy and always just understands that boys will be boys and girls will be girls. Religion almost always involves guilt and shame management. In this message from Colossians 2 we show you that Jesus can free you from guilt and shame from the things in your past.

Why Do We Work?
As the Teacher in Ecclesiastes considers the problems with human labor, we are forced to ask not only, "Why do we work?", but more importantly, "For whom do we work?"

Finding Jesus
We all have a religion of some kind, even if we're atheists. And we want people to lose whatever their religion is, not because religion is bad and not because religion never does any good, but because religions are all the same: what do I have to do to shift the cosmic balance of power in my favor when it comes to my own pleasure and pain in life (and the next if your religion has an afterlife). All religions boil down to what do I have to do to get the “karmic edge” I need to get what I want out of life. This message centers on Colossians 1 where the focus is not on religion but on a person who is reconciling all things to himself and what it means for Him to be “in you, the hope of glory” We will challenge you to lose your religion so you can find Jesus.

Old School Easter Lifestyle
This sermon is from our 2nd worship service. It is focused on how Easter should be an everyday reality and not just a once a year holiday. Easter should result in a different life...not the same old, same old.

Jesus Christ, Son of God, Savior (AM)

Only Jesus Breaks The Power Of Legalism - Colossians 2:16-23
le-gal-ism (LEE-guh-liz-uhm) [n.]: 1) An attempt to save ourselves by our own moral or religious effort 2) Placing our identity in our moral or religious performance, belonging to the "right" religious group (or subgroup, or sub-subgroup) 3) Trusting in religion, rather than Christ, to provide what we need for life and our connection with God Just as there were some in the Colossian church who were trying to tell others that they were somehow "disqualified" to receive God's love and care, there are often voices telling us the same. Maybe it's because of what we wear or what we eat or drink, and the voices can come from varied sources -- other people, churches, even ourselves. Regardless, believing this can cause us to rely on some outward action -- not Christ -- to re-connect us with God. The Apostle Paul warns us against these things, assuring us that in Christ, God has already qualified us.

Roots Down, Wings Up - Colossians 2:6-7
For Christians, there's a constant danger of being swept away, captured by false teachings and false philosophies that surround us in the world, and that crop up in our own hearts and minds -- falsehoods that oppose the Gospel which we've been taught and which we believe. The Apostle Paul warned the Colossian church -- and us -- of these very things. Because only Christ can save us from being swept away, we must be rooted and established in him. Only then can our spiritual lives take the upward trajectory -- the wings -- promised in Scripture.

Dear Church, Walk This Way - Colossians 2:6-7
"Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him, rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving." Because we are loved and accepted by God, even in our broken and misshapen state, we are therefore called to walk out -- to live out -- the good news of the Gospel.

Christmas Is For Gnostics - Colossians 1:15-20
This week, we take a look at Colossians 1:15-20 and see that Christmas -- the inbreaking of God's Son into our world and our humanity -- is the cure for our practical gnosticism. There's no "secret" knowledge beyond Christ that we need to be whole.

Dear Church, Jesus Really Is Enough! - Colossians 1:9-14
Like so many of us today, the Christians in Colossae often wondered if Jesus -- if the Gospel they had come to believe in -- was really enough to meet their needs, not only for eternity, but for the here and now. This week, we look at verses 9 through 14 of Colossians 1 and see that Paul tells them (and us) that yes, Christ provides everything we need, and we can ask God with confidence for everything that he has already provided to us.

Dear Church, Look How You've Grown! (Part A) - Colossians 1:1-8
The church in Colossae shared quite a bit in common with us at Grace Central. They were a relatively new church, living in a pluralistic society with all sorts of viewpoints, religions, and philosophies that competed with Christ for their allegiance. In his letter to the Colossian church, the Apostle Paul assures them that Christ is more than enough to meet their needs.

Soul Prosperity
We need to live in God’s righteousness, peace and joy on the inside all the time, not just cry out to God for it when we are in a crisis. Our soul is prospering when we are walking in step with Holy Spirit.

Is it better to be skilled at making money or managing money? True, we have to make money, but if we manage more can we make it on less - and have more to invest. It's really not about the money; it's about the manager.

Colossians 1:15-23
God in all His fullness was present to us in Christ. All that God is- Christ was, Christ displayed, Christ brought to us. And through Jesus, God made possible the rescue and renewal of Creation. Through Jesus, God made it possible for us to be forgiven, made new, in relationship with Him, reconciled to Him. At peace. All through what Jesus did- all through a death, a burial and a resurrection.

Colossians 1:1-14
Deciding to become a follower of Jesus is literally being removed from the sphere of darkness, the empire of sin and evil and everything that ruins us and ruins the world and being transferred to, transferring allegiance to, another kingdom, the Kingdom of Jesus… the one who bought our freedom and forgives our sins.
