Who’s in Your Wallet?
Becoming who God wants us to be happens best in community. God created community because he exists in community - Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. God designed us to grow best when we are involved in true, authentic community with the people who are important to us.

It Starts Close to Home
Every day in little ways, we try to control our closest relationships. We want to get our way. We treat those closest to us poorly because we are looking out for ourselves. Paul's challenge to his audience was to systematically look at the relationships closest to them and to challenge them to live their new lives in Christ there - close to home.

The Goal is Spiritual Maturity
Paul could rejoice in his sufferings because Jesus had died on the cross for His Bride and had called Paul to be a minister to Her. Paul's goal, therefore, was to preach Christ to the church and to call each member to spiritual maturity. In this section of the letter Paul urges them to grow in Christ, and reminds them that spiritual maturity doesn't come by being religious. It comes through a relationship with Christ. This is the mystery: Christ in you, the hope of glory!

Kill the Old. Put on the New.
Paul tells us to "put to death" anything that is related to our old life, our old existence before we chose to follow Christ. Then, we can put on characteristics that reflect our new lives in Christ. Paul instructs us to "put on" compassion, kindness, humility, meekness, patience and love - to wear them like garments.

Living in a Brand New World
Once you and I choose Christ, we have to understand what has happened in our lives. The same power that raised Jesus from the dead is at work in you and me. Instead of living the way we lived before Christ was in us, we have to live in this brand new world that Christ calls us to.
