Sermons About Comfort
Advent: Hope 2008
How you live now is an outworking of hope. Your hope is shown in your life. It’s that simple. The biblical concept of hope is difficult to grasp because the word translated from the Greek isn’t served all that well by our modern or popular usage of the word hope. The Greek word is used some 88 times in the New Testament and is always translated as “hope.†The problem is that the English word gives the impression of wishing rather than a kind of certainty without site. In other words, when asked whether or not this or that thing is going to happen, you may say “I hope it does,†meaning that you are wishing it does. It has uncertainty mixed in. But the Biblical definition of hope is a life-shaping certainty about something that hasn’t happened yet, but you know it will.

Even when we are the bottom God will not leave us or forsake us. If we are looking for it we will see him working. The God of all comfort has saved us through the cross. He has provided a place of refuge that we could not earn or ask for. Have you trusted our God of all Comfort?

A Few Good Men for the City
Nehemiah took steps to repopulate the city. He appointed men who would keep it safe, help them worship and instruct the people. Godly leaders create a safe environment for meaningful ministry (biblical worship & gospel-centered teaching).

Being Filled With the Spirit (Acts 8:1-25)
The Holy Spirit is the promised gift of the Father to his people. While all Christians are given the Holy Spirit, we may be filled with the Holy Spirit in greater degrees and from time to time. As Christians, we should desire and continually pursue being filled with the Holy Spirit.

Taking Risks for the City
God's plan for the city invites us to risk for the city. Jesus left comfort and security to save us. He works in us so we will take risks to bring the blessings of the gospel to people in the city.
