A Picture of God’s Care
The psalms are categorized as messianic psalms, thanksgiving psalms, praise psalms and wisdom psalms. Psalm 23 is a psalm of confidence. From verse 1 to verse 6, the poet and retired shepherd, David, reflects on his life as the Lord’s ‘sheep.’ He concludes with confidence that the Lord has been his shepherd. The Lord’s shepherding is shown in His guidance, in His comforting presence and in His abundant provisions. The Lord asks us to be His sheep – those who are utterly dependent on the Lord for everything.
