The Good Society (John 13:2b-17)

The Lords Supper Remembering the Lamb that was slain
The Lord's supper is the time that we set aside to remember what Christ has done for us. Do we really contemplate all that Jesus did for us? During communion time, do we make it about us or about Jesus? May each one of us take a step back and glorify God for what he has done for us in Christ.

Communion
Our salvation is pictured in the feast of unleavened bread, better known as the Passover. Jesus is the fulfillment of this picture and in his last celebration of Passover he gives a new picture and a new hope in communion.

The Lamb of God
Over the next 9 weeks we'll be exploring the last hours of Jesus' life. Throughout the last 2000 years, Christianity has become the world's largest religion, and it is still the world's fastest growing religion. And yet, at the center of it, is the bloody and shameful death of its founder. Why has the cross always been so central, and why have countless millions had their lives radically changed by this story? Tonight we explore the difference between the Gospel of Jesus and religion as we look at how Jesus explains his death in the Last Supper.

Why do we Observe the Lords Table?
Is the Lords Table just another church tradition? Or is there some significance and meaning for observing this command from Jesus Christ.

Jesus and the Cross in the New Year
Reminder that it's Jesus and the Cross that really matters. Without the power of Christ, we can't do anything. Jesus has given us freedom from ourselves, sin, death and satan. Our foundation is the cross and in this year we must remember to keep our focus on Christ.

A Significant Supper
Our celebration of the Lord's Supper is a 2000 year old remembrance that is based on an old event. On the night before Jesus' death, He gave new meaning to that ancient event. In so doing, He gave us the true meaning of the Passover.

Communion: Crushing the Serpent
- The temptation of Jesus in the garden of Gethsemane compared to the temptation of Adam and Eve in Genesis 3. - Colossians 3:13-15 played out as a Courtroom drama with you in the dock. - Jesus' last words, "It is finished", it is paid in full.

Two Sides of the Cross
The cross provided both forgiveness and life. God desires that we live from Christ's life and not our flesh.

When Right is Wrong - Part 2
It seems like everywhere we look we encounter people who are only looking out for themselves. We see selfish people on the highway, at the grocery store and even in the bathroom mirror. Often our attitudes are driven by the deep conviction that we are better than others. In this section of his letter to the Corinthians, St. Paul says that there is a way to live that puts other people first and sees them as equals. This way of life is what God is all about. He takes it very seriously when we treat someone with prejudice or with pride. God’s desire is that we would emulate Jesus and live with humility, seeking equality and justice for others.

The Covenant Meal Inaugurated (Mark 14:1-31)
The nation of Israel failed to see that the greatest problem they had was not external, such as Rome, but was internal -- their own sin. As a result, they failed to see what sort of a Savior and Messiah they needed. In this passage, we see a sharp contrast between Mary's loving and worshipful anointing of Jesus against the hatred and betrayal of Jesus's many enemies. But at the same time, we are reminded that all -- both true and false disciples -- have need of a savior. We see God's provision for us in Jesus's death, and are regularly reminded of it in our celebration of the Lord's supper.

Soul Prosperity
We need to live in God’s righteousness, peace and joy on the inside all the time, not just cry out to God for it when we are in a crisis. Our soul is prospering when we are walking in step with Holy Spirit.

Christ and the Meals of His People
Meals are about a lot more than just good food. They also facilitate relational intimacy. Because of that you can learn a lot about a person by looking at who they choose to eat with. Likewise, you can learn a lot about God by looking at who Jesus chooses to eat with. Though Jesus is no longer here in the flesh he is still present and still hosting a meal for his invited guests. This meal is known as Communion, The Lord's Supper, or the Eucharist. It is a meal rich in meaning and profound in significance. Listen in as we look into this meal together.

Psalm 116
1 I love the LORD, for he heard my voice; he heard my cry for mercy. 2 Because he turned his ear to me, I will call on him as long as I live. 3 The cords of death entangled me, the anguish of the grave [a] came upon me; I was overcome by trouble and sorrow. 4 Then I called on the name of the LORD : "O LORD, save me!" 5 The LORD is gracious and righteous; our God is full of compassion. 6 The LORD protects the simplehearted; when I was in great need, he saved me. 7 Be at rest once more, O my soul, for the LORD has been good to you. 8 For you, O LORD, have delivered my soul from death, my eyes from tears, my feet from stumbling, 9 that I may walk before the LORD in the land of the living. 10 I believed; therefore [b] I said, "I am greatly afflicted." 11 And in my dismay I said, "All men are liars." 12 How can I repay the LORD for all his goodness to me? 13 I will lift up the cup of salvation and call on the name of the LORD. 14 I will fulfill my vows to the LORD in the presence of all his people. 15 Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of his saints. 16 O LORD, truly I am your servant; I am your servant, the son of your maidservant [c] ; you have freed me from my chains. 17 I will sacrifice a thank offering to you and call on the name of the LORD. 18 I will fulfill my vows to the LORD in the presence of all his people, 19 in the courts of the house of the LORD— in your midst, O Jerusalem. Praise the LORD. [d]

Remember and Reflect
How do you honor someone who risks their life to defend your freedom? Today, we honor those who have given their lives while serving in the armed forces. And, we also honor the one who gave his life to secure our eternal freedom.
