Community Groups: Life of David: Identity
What makes a man? Is it trendy clothes? An impressive stock portfolio? Great abs? If you want to get to the heart of the matter, look no further than the Old Testament character of David. Described as a man after God’s own heart, David was nevertheless a “man’s man” whose life soared to great highs even as it would later plummet to unthinkable depths. For this reason, there are lessons we each can learn from David’s remarkable life with God, whether male or female, young or old. Join us for "The Making of a Man" as we examine eight of the integral character traits that made this “man after God’s own heart” a real person who is deeply relatable to each of our lives today.

Lesson for us: Don’t expect gracious answers from Him if you’re insulting Him. The main challenge: The despising of God’s name has to stop. Worship is serious business.
Skeptical About God's Love
Israel's problem: They were “going through the motions” in their worship. God primarily demonstrates His love through material and physical blessings. God considers His spiritual blessings more valuable. “Love” and “hate” are used as terms of comparison. If God had not chosen Israel, God would have destroyed Israel. Focus on the blessings you have been given instead of complaining about those you don’t have.
New Beginnings
How was it that, two thousand years ago, a handful of uneducated people, with no facilities, and a theology that was still developing were able to, on the day of Pentecost, start a revival that resulted in the entire World learning of Christ.
