Sermons About Compassion
Soul Prosperity
We need to live in God’s righteousness, peace and joy on the inside all the time, not just cry out to God for it when we are in a crisis. Our soul is prospering when we are walking in step with Holy Spirit.

Core Values - Compassion
Love should be the primary characteristic of a person who believes in Jesus Christ. God defined love for us by first loving us while we were wicked rebels and sending His Son Jesus to die in our place. Because we have been freely given so much love and compassion from God through His Son by the power of His Holy Spirit we then have the ability to pass that love and compassion on to others. The Apostle John teaches us that love is so important that if we do not love other people it is a sign that we do not know or love God, and the Apostle Paul teaches us that if we do not speak and act in love all of our words are a hollow clanging and our acts are empty gestures. We should arrange our thoughts and our daily activities to intentionally show compassion and mercy to the people that God has placed in our lives.

The Demands of Discipleship (Mark 6:7-56)
Grasping the majesty of Jesus Christ creates faith that springs into action: our seeing Christ produces faith in Christ, which produces obedience to Christ. We see the calling and service that we are summoned to as disciples; we see the great personal cost that discipleship requires -- laying down our lives -- and we are provoked to discipleship and service by compassion and gratitude rooted in the cross.

Prayer, Word, Deed
Ghandi once said, "I like your Christ; I do not like your Christians. Your Christians are so unlike your Christ." In this passage in Mark 1.35-45, we see 3 aspects of Jesus' ministry - his rich prayer life, his unsettling gospel message, and his passionate care for the marginalized. And in the story of the leper's cleansing, Mark presents to us how we ought to come to Jesus - confessing our sin-sick hearts and putting ourselves at his mercy. And if we come to Jesus like the leper, we can begin to be healed, so that our lives more accurately reflect the ministry of Jesus.

Disciplines of Life: Part Three
Continueing our study of Spiritual Disciplines as the avenues of transformation by God's grace, we look this morning at the Discipline of Solitude. Solitude is a gracious gift of God offered to help us break out of selfishness and the compulsion to impress others. In being alone, we discover who we truly are, and are able to listen to God and be refreshed by His Spirit. In being alone, we discover that we are never truly alone - and in this awareness, we are set free. In being alone, we are prepared to be in community, and out of solitude we will have the inner heart necessary for true compassion and missional engagement with others. In doing this, we are walking in the footsteps of Jesus who modelled for us a life of inter-dependency on the Father.
