Certainty in the Midst of Life’s Changes
Life is about changes. And, in many cases, those changes disrupt us; they disturb us; they unsettle us. As hard as we may try to stop them, changes still keep coming. So what's a person to do? Is there a constancy that can sustain us through the on-going changes of life? The Apostle Paul possessed a certainty that provided his life with such a constancy even in the midst of drastic changes – from freedom to imprisonment, from abundance to poverty, and even from life to death. The same certainty experienced by Paul is available to us today when we take God at His Word.

When I Can Coast Or Retire
When will I be happy with God? Often we think it is either: 1. When I have done enough to please him (see last week’s sermon). Or, 2. When I can coast or retire so we can focus on our spiritual life. Actually, you will be happy with God when you press to know Christ more!

What To Do With Our Fears
Fear, anger, doubt, tears, guilt and depression are all emotions that we’ve experienced and will experience. Some, even today, may feel completely overwhelmed by one or several of these emotions. The challenge for us as God’s people is not IF you’ll struggle with these, it’s HOW you’ll struggle that makes all the difference.

The LORD is my Shepherd
1The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. 2He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. 3He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. 4Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. 5You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. 6Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the LORD forever.

GODLY CONFIDENCE IN DAILY LIFE THRU THE GOSPEL (2Co 4:1-18) 06-28-09
INTRODUCTION: Today’s Topic: Confidence. Today’s Passage in Context (2 Corinthians 4:1-18): --> the Central Theme of 2 Corinthians: * “The central theme of 2 Corinthians is the relationship between suffering and the power of the Spirit in Paul's apostolic life, ministry, and message . . . Paul's opponents had argued that Paul suffered too much to be a Spirit-filled apostle of the risen Christ. Paul argues that his weakness as an apostle is the very means by which believers are comforted (1:3–11) and God in Christ is made known in the world (2:14–17; 4:7–12; 6:3–10; 11:23b–33). Paul's sufferings embody the cross of Christ, while his endurance amid adversity, with thanksgiving and contentment, manifests the resurrection power of the Spirit (12:7–10). Paul's suffering as an apostle is thus the very means God uses to reveal his glory (1:3–4, 11, 20; 4:15; 9:11–15; 10:17–18).” *ESV Study Bible, Crossway Bibles, © 2007. --> the New Covenant: a new creation is coming thru God’s power. CONFIDENCE, TRUTH, AND THE GOSPEL -->(vs1-6) We have an Unshakeable Confidence based on God’s Truth in the Gospel. --> Therefore, we do not lose heart (though our Gospel is Rejected, God’s Truth prevails Victoriously). CONFIDENCE, POWER, AND THE GOSPEL --> (vs7-12) We have a Persevering Confidence based on God’s Power in the Gospel. --> Therefore, we do not lose heart: though we suffer many trials, God’s Power manifests the Life of Jesus thru our weaknesses. CONFIDENCE, HOPE, AND THE GOSPEL --> (vs13-18) We have a Joyful Confidence based on our Hope of God’s Promise in the Gospel. --> Therefore, we do not lose heart: though our lives are wasting away, we find Joy in the Hope of the coming Eternal Glory.
