Sermons About Conversion
FAITH ON FIRE; Evidence of Your Salvation, Part 5
When you die will you spend eternity with God? Why? How do you know? Can you know? These are the ultimate questions we consider. Are we sure of our salvation or are we trusting in false assurances? Consider Paul's conversion experience and our own.

Freedom from Sin: How the Gospel Still Affects Us ALL
Have you ever wrestled with sin to a great degree? Or have you ever wrestled with the same sin over and over again? Or have you ever turned your back on Christ for a period of your life and regularly lived in sin? Chances are, you have experienced the reality of one of these questions. Yet the entire 6th chapter of Romans declares that Christians are dead to sin. What could that mean? Even true, godly Christians struggle to become more like Christ. Today we will look at how this Gospel message of freedom continues to affect Christians even after their conversion.

Getting People to Take Their Medicine
It has been said that the church is to be a hospital for sinners, not a museum for saints. If the church is a hospital, what kind of medicine does it offer and how can it persuade patients to take it? Just as in every area of life, Jesus is our example here. He excelled in getting people to hear and accept what God had to say to them. He led many people to complete change and healing. What was his secret weapon? Key Verses: Lk 5:27-32, Matt 28:18, Lk 7:36-39, Matt 19:16-22, Eph 2:8-12, John 16:7-14, Lk 19:1ff, 1John 4:8

Why the Local Church? (Ephesians 4:11-16)
In God's design, the local church is to serve as 1) a place to hear God's word preached and applied in a systematic way; 2) a place to put our commitment to God, and to one another, into practice; 3) a context for us to mature; 4) a place to discover and practice our ministry and spiritual gifts with perspective and leadership; 5) a protection from doctrinal error; 6) a place to demonstrate the gospel; and 7) a place to preserve and cultivate the fruit of the gospel.

Analyzing Authenticity (Romans 2:17-29)
Paul challenges his readers not to base our confidence before God in our religious pedigree, family history, bible knowledge, Christian education, or any other experience or practice. There are many good things we ought to pursue, but there is a danger in craving man's approval rather than God's, and none of these things will secure our standing before God. Our only hope is the gospel, pleading for mercy rather than justice, and trusting in Christ's dying for sinners. Once we have trusted, we are freed to do good works rightly -- not so that we can be saved, but out of love and gratitude, as an overflow of our changed hearts. The essence of a true Christian is a changed heart.

The Coming Day of Wrath (Romans 2:1-16)
We live in light of the coming day of wrath, first, by thinking rightly of the sin of others; we are no better than others and must not presume on God's grace. Second, by giving ourselves to good works, not as an attempt to save ourselves, but in faithfulness, gratitude and love. Third, by thinking rightly of those who have never heard the gospel; their problem is not that they have not heard, but that they have seen God and rejected him. The only way that we will escape the judgment of God is through Jesus's death, sacrifice, and washing our sins away.

Acts 9 : From Enemy to Emissary - The Conversion of Saul
Back at the end of Acts chapter 7 we meet a young man named Saul. It was he who held everyones cloaks so they could throw rocks at Stephen more easily. He gave consent to his murder. Here in Chapter 9 we encounter Saul once again. Luke tells us Saul went on a manhunt to arrest followers of the WAY – the new sect of Judaism which was, as he saw it a false religion that needed to be snuffed out. And Saul was committed to doing everything he could to make that happen...that was until Saul met Jesus along the way.

Water Baptism
Baptism by immersion in water is an important doctrine and practice for God's church. Water baptism is significant because it is a commandment of Jesus; it serves as a picture of our salvation; and because it is a sign of the new covenant that God established through Jesus. Baptism is appropriate for all who have come to faith in Christ and are able to confess that faith, whether they are converted adults or children who have conscious faith in Christ. Baptism is a sign of new birth and not of maturity, so it is right for new believers to seek baptism promptly. The timing of baptism will naturally be uncertain for children, but parents are encouraged to faithfully work to ensure their children understand the gospel. Baptism is appropriate as soon as children are able to articulate the gospel and their personal faith in Jesus.

A Spiritual Wake Up Call 2
What we have in our text is two key ingredients in the Christian life that will move us on to maturity. Last week we saw the first which was this point. 1. As believers we should learn obedience through what we suffer. (5:11-14) I showed you the connection of chapter 5:8-9 with verse 11 with the Greek word akouw. Christ learned obedience through what he suffered and because of this became the source of eternal salvation to all those who obey him. The problem was that the readers of this letter according to verse 11 had become dull of hearing. The word akouw which is the root word for the words obedience in verse 8, obey in verse 9, and hearing in verse 11 is used as a play on words to catch our attention. If the hearing of the people had grown dull, then so had their obedience. The trials and persecution should have pressed them on to maturity by pushing them toward Christ as their great High Priest but instead had driven them toward disobedience and possible apostasy. This morning I want you to see the second point. That is: 2. As believers we should learn perseverance through the beauty of our faith. (6:1-12)

Transformissional Conversion Part II
We've been looking at the story of Paul's conversion and early ministry, how an enemy of God who was spiritually an orphan was welcomed in to become a child of the Father. Luke, however, abruptly shifts from Paul's life to Peter's life and the two miracles mentioned at the end of chapter 9.

Transformissional Calling Part II (SDSU)
Last week we talked about our need for purpose and meaning as creatures, and without purpose, meaning and value we easily slip into boredom and apathy. One causes us to feel indifferent to things around us, another causes us to feel indifferent to ourselves or someone else, but both leave us with a desire for desires.

Transformissional Calling (SDSU)
The last couple of weeks we’ve looked at Paul’s radical conversion, his calling by Christ to give His life away. We’ve attempted to see what true conversion looks like and what true conversion believes. We are going to take a couple of weeks and teach on the subject of calling. It is perhaps the most distorted and misunderstood doctrine in the Church today and we need to recapture the idea of calling.

Transformissional Conversion
This week we’re looking at a core truth that is integrally connected to every other message we’ve taught. We’re taking a 35,000-foot fly-over on the text and looking at the nature of conversion. Next week we’ll get into the specifics of Paul’s life and what changed, and the week following we’ll look at the idea of The Call. This is part one of three.

8 Conversions of A New Testament Believer
Sermon 4 in the Foundational Truths category covers much of the change that will occur in our lives once we've been saved. For instance, our Conversion to Christ is the first. Some others are our conversion to a local church and to a life of prayer.

Child Evangelism
How should we go about evangelizing children? 1. Don't preach a partial gospel. 2. Do preach the whole gospel. 3. Do teach the demands of the gospel. 4. Don't force a child to "make a decision." 5. Don't rush baptism. 6. Don't give premature or unbiblical assurance of faith. 7. Do express encouragement at signs of the Holy Spirit's working. 8. Do pray and trust God who is gracious and sovereign.

Freedom from the Past
The past has power beyond the past. Psychology, history, and personal experience all testify to that. So much power, in fact, that it has been said that we may be slaves to our past: slaves to regret and guilt for things we have done, slaves to shame and anger for things done to us, slaves to relational habits developed and strengthened with each day and each repetition. Must this always be so? Or can we be freed from our past? Listen in as we delve into the autobiography of the Apostle Paul.
