He asks the question, "did you enter into the covenant by birth or by conversion?", and elaborates on the differences. God's Glory in a Genealogy (Matthew 1:1-17)
Though not usually seen this way, Matthew's genealogy powerfully shows he glory of God’s sovereign faithfulness and grace in the coming of the Lord Jesus Christ. To see this we will note I. The purpose of the Genealogy, and then II. 4 ways God’s glory is manifest in the coming Christ: (1) God is faithful to His promises, (2) God is sovereign over the nations and individuals, (3) God is a God of indescribable grace, and (4) Jesus Christ is the display of God’s glory.
