But unfortunately many agreements are treated with contempt and are broken. Many people are unfaithful today. What is faithfulness? God is faithful. So what does this mean for you and me?

He points out that Abraham had more than one son, but only one was the heir, according to the promise. Hagar and Sarah represent the Old and New Covenants, Law and Gospel, slavery and free sons.

Paul explains to the Galatians the relationship between Law and Promise, so they might understand the true purpose of the Law. We misuse the Law if we try to justify ourselves by it. It actually prepares us to receive the Promise by faith in Jesus Christ by revealing how disobedient we really are.
