Sermons About Cravings
Cravings and Conflict (James 4:1-2)
James explains that the root problem in our conflicts is worse than we think: it is our own sin, specifically our sinful cravings that make idols out of our desires and then fight for them. Fortunately, the answer is also easier than we think -- the forgiveness and reconciliation that we receive through the cross in humbling ourselves to confess and repent. NOTE: This is a recording of the same sermon delivered at another time and place. There were technical issues recording the sermon at Sovereign Grace Church.

Meaning
This service will be about our hunger for meaning, our craving to know that life makes sense, and that ultimately we are all on a search for truth, and that ultimately, truth is personal.

Destiny
Our souls crave lives of purpose and significance that ultimately can only come from God. “We cannot live the life of our dreams without an irrational sense of destiny. And all of us have our dreams. More than that, all of us need our dreams. Some of us sadly are sleeping through them. All of us long to become something more than we are. We are driven to achieve, moved to accomplish, fueled by ambition. It burns hotter in some than in others, but it is within all of us. We’re all searching for our unique purpose, our divine destiny, or simply a sense of siginificance or some measure of success.†-Erwin McManus, Soul Cravings

Love
The big idea in the first session of “Soul Cravings†is all about our undeniable, inexorable craving for intimacy, to love and be loved. But when love is so hard, why do we keep on trying? 2nd, 3rd, 4th marriages, friendship after friendship after friendship, we just keep trying to find something with other people, even if the “other people†is the same person we’ve been married to for years and years and years. Sure, some people shut down and become reclusive, and we obviously do give up on some relationships some times, but the reality is that even our reclusiveness and giving up is driven by this soul craving. Rarely does anyone ever call it quits on love in this world and remain in this world without being found to be not quite “right in the headâ€. It’s a soul craving.
