The Supremacy of Christ
Christ is all. He created it all and sustains it ALL!
Who Are We Praying To?
Prayer is very important, but we need to think about what kind of God we are praying to first.
The Physical and Spiritual Union
One of the most foundational matters for understanding biblical Christianity is the relationship of the physical to the spiritual. Scripture teaches that since God is Creator and Redeemer he created a physical world that is inherently, or in its essential nature, spiritual. God as Creator is truly distinct from, yet not disconnected from his creation. He is certainly not dissolved into it so that we cannot speak in any meaningful sense about God without simply talking about the physical material realm. If we are to understand Jesus and his kingdom we must understand, at least in part, what his teaching and preaching had to do with his physical healing. Matthew 4:23-25 highlights these points, and along with some other passages in the Gospels helps us to understand that the very reason why Jesus was so popular became the very reason why he became so unpopular--he would not allow people to play the spiritual off against the physical.
THE WRATH OF GOD REVEALED: and the Good News of Jesus Proclaimed (Message #3 * Romans 1:16-32) 10-21-2012
The Wrath of God Revealed 1. God’s Wrath is Revealed against Humanity’s Sin: because sin deeply offends God and leads to the suppression of His truth (v18). 2. We are Accountable to our Creator (vs19-20, 32). ● This is understood through General Revelation (vs19-20). ● People willfully rebel against God, knowing they deserve judgment, and even approve of those who sin (v32). 3. God Gave People up to their Sin (vs21-31). ● They exchanged the glory of God for idolatry, so God handed them over to sexual impurity (vs21-24). ● They exchanged the truth about God for a lie, so God handed them over to dishonorable passions (vs25-27). ● They refused to acknowledge God, so God handed them over to a corrupted mind, to do evil things (vs28-31). The Good News of Jesus Proclaimed 1. Be humbled by God’s Wrath: we all stand guilty before God outside of faith in Jesus Christ (vs18-32; 2:1 – 3:20). 2. Be Confident in the Gospel: it is God’s power for the salvation of everyone who believes (v16). 3. Live by Faith in this Evil-fallen world: as the righteous people of God for His gospel and for His glory (v17; Hab 2:4; Heb 10:32ff).
Evidence for God in a World of Suffering
This morning we complete our series on the evidence for our creator by discussing one of the major reasons why people do not believe. Is there evidence for a creator in a world full of suffering?
When Worship Is Right
Psalm 24:1-10 (KJV) 1 "The earth is the Lord's, and the fulness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein. 2 For he hath founded it upon the seas, and established it upon the floods. 3 Who shall ascend into the hill of the Lord? or who shall stand in his holy place? 4 He that hath clean hands, and a pure heart; who hath not lifted up his soul unto vanity, nor sworn deceitfully. 5 He shall receive the blessing from the Lord, and righteousness from the God of his salvation. 6 This is the generation of them that seek him, that seek thy face, O Jacob. Selah. 7 Lift up your heads, O ye gates; and be ye lift up, ye everlasting doors; and the King of glory shall come in. 8 Who is this King of glory? The Lord strong and mighty, the Lord mighty in battle. 9 Lift up your heads, O ye gates; even lift them up, ye everlasting doors; and the King of glory shall come in. 10 Who is this King of glory? The Lord of hosts, he is the King of glory."
