Resolve in Babylon
The position of Daniel and his companions, to be re-trained as a Babylonian citizen and forget about Israel and God, is not strange from what our school system is teaching our children today. Humanism versus God's word.

God Has Set the Calendar in Motion -Can Anyone Stop It?
God Has Set the Calendar in Motion -Can Anyone Stop It? Daniel 9:20-27 & Chapter 10 Review: Overview of chapters 1-8 By the end of God’s world calendar six things have taken place. (9:24) 1. “to finish transgression” 4. “to bring everlasting righteousness’ 2. “to put an end to sin” 5. “to seal up vision and prophecy” 3. “to atone for wickedness” 6. “to anoint the most holy” God’s time clock is set in motion by this event. (9:25) * The issuing of the decree to rebuild Jerusalem starts the clock * It will take 7 “sevens” = 49 years to rebuild Jerusalem * In another 62 “sevens” = 434 years the Messiah was to be crucified * Jerusalem and the temple will be (were) destroyed in 70 A.D by Roman armies under Titus (9:26) * The final 1 “seven” (7 years) described (9:27) How does the unseen realm affect world events? (Chapter 10) * Who is Michael? – His name means “who is like God?” * Angels seem to have three distinct ministries o Michael is the archangel leading the warrior angels o Gabriel is the archangel in charge of the messenger angels o Lucifer seems to have been in charge of the worship angels o Satan is nothing more or less than the fallen archangel named Lucifer o Satan has his “princes” ruling in the heavenly realms assigned to earthly empires and humans who govern them including the structures of life such as family, schools, arts, media, etc. o The importance of the angelic fight with the prince of Persia and Greece. (Verse 20) God can only entrust this kind of encounter and information to someone like Daniel.

The Representative
Daniel 9 The Representative Perseverance vs. Procrastination 1. Who has the time? Daniel 6:10 ‘And Daniel went to the open window, knelt down and prayed and gave thanks three times a day, as was his custom since early days.’ 2. Whose problem is it? Daniel 9:10 “We have not obeyed the voice of the Lord….” Whether we have or have not been complicit to the problem, we are all capable of it and so include ourselves as we cry out to God for mercy on us and our world. 3. Who will God listen to? Daniel 9:23 ”… and I have come to tell you, for you are greatly beloved..” Ezekiel 22:30 “So I looked for a man among them who would make a wall, and stand in the gap before Me in behalf of the land, that I should not destroy it: but I found no one.” To re-present someone is to, with all due diligence, give others an undistorted view of the one being represented. Daniel 6:16 As Darius the king prepared to have Daniel thrown to the lions he said to Daniel; “Your God, whom you serve continually, He will deliver you.”

Defining Moments
Daniel 8 Defining Moments “But there is a God in heaven who reveals secrets….” Daniel 2:28 “….the Most High rules in the kingdom of men, and gives it to whomever He chooses.” Daniel 4:25 The validity of the messenger Matthew 24:14-15, “Therefore when you see…..as spoken of by the prophet Daniel…..” Daniel was a man that had integrity, wisdom, and approval from God, consequently we look carefully at what he writes. The sovereignty of God Daniel 1:2, 2:28,37, 4:25 He is the author of the message, the messenger, and the ultimate kingdom. God moves in times and ways of His own choosing. The significance of the message Acts 1:7-8, “It is not for you to know the times or seasons…” Matthew 16:3, “Hypocrites! You know how to discern the weather, but you cannot discern the signs of the times.” Understanding something of the ways and strategies of God. 4. The conclusion - God is in control - Remain faithful regardless of the cost - Reject bitterness - Rest in the providence of God

The Count Down to this World’s Destiny
The Count Down to this World’s Destiny Daniel Chapter Seven The setting: Rewind the clock to the first year of Belshazzar’s reign. Four beasts came up out of the Mediterranean Sea in the midst of a powerful storm representing 4 world empires Babylon Medo-Persian Grecian Roman What is the exact meaning of the forth beast? (verse 19) He was exceedingly dreadful, teeth of iron and claws of bronze. He devoured, crushed and trampled everything under his feet. The 10 horns represent 10 kingdoms. A little horn (king) will arise out of the 10 and subdue 3 kings. He will speak out against the Most High and wear down the saints. There are four names in the Bible for this person 1. “The Man of Lawlessness” 2 Thessalonians 2:1-10 2. “The Beast” Revelation 13:1-8 3. “The Antichrist” 1 John 2:18 4. “The Little Horn” Daniel 7:8 He is an intellectual genius (Dan. 8:23) oratorical genius (Dan.11:36) political genius (Rev. 17:11-12), commercial genius (Dan.11:43; Rev.13:16, 17), military genius (Rev: 6:2; 13:2), a religious genius (2 Thess. 2:4; Rev.13:8) Nothing is more dangerous than an evil genius! The “Ancient of Days” God the Father enters the world court as the Chief Justice of the Universe. (Verse 9-10) * He sat on a chariot throne * The books were opened before Him * He judged in favor of the saints and the beast was slain Jesus, the Son is welcomed by the “Ancient of Days” to receive His everlasting kingdom (verse 13, 14) * The saints of the Most High will receive the kingdom with Him and will possess it forever, yes forever and ever (verse 18,27)

Integrity: Its Greatest Test Yet
Integrity: Its Greatest Test Yet Daniel Chapter Six A new government but the same old human nature * The plot against Daniel included jealousy, deception, murder and flattery. (verses 4-9) * Even Daniel’s enemies acknowledged that he was reliable, neither corrupt nor negligent. The ideal set up for a compromise (verses10-14 * The new law only forbade the making of petitions to God, and that for only 30 days out of the year, one month out of an entire lifetime. * Why not pray in a closet for 30 days instead of in front of his window? * It was not as though he was asked to deny his faith or publicly worship an idol or image. * Daniel knew the 70 year duration of their captivity was up. His people could soon return to Jerusalem. He prayed his whole life for this, why die now, it seems utterly pointless. They called for a stone to be placed over the door of the lions den with the king’s seal on it so Daniel’s situation could not be changed! (verse 17) * Many of us know of another case where a STONE was to seal an opening so the situation could not be changed! * This is not a darling little children’s Sunday school story! Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him standing firm in the faith… (1 Peter 5:8,9) There’s an exciting dimension to living in our Babylon (vs. 25-28) * There are gloriously intense encounters with God! * Ultimately Babylon can’t destroy you, if you’re living a life of integrity. * It’s great to see worldly heathen kings becoming so impressed with our God that they influence entire empires!

God Writes on the Wall
God Writes on the Wall Daniel Chapter 5 The setting of Daniel chapter 5: * Nebuchadnezzar has been dead for 23 years * He was succeeded by his son Evil-Merodach, who ruled two years and was assassinated by his brother-in-law Neriglissar * Neriglissar ruled four years and was succeeded by his young son Labashi-Marduk who was assassinated after two months, Nabonidus became king * Nabonidus was the last king of Babylon. He appointed his oldest son Belshazzar as co-regent in his absence It’s a big deal when someone treats that which is holy as unholy (verses 1-6) * Belshazzar, heady with wine orders the gold and silver vessels taken from the temple in Jerusalem be brought in to the party to make a toast to their gods * These vessels were anointed and consecrated to God, which means they were declared holy, to be treated as holy and set apart exclusively for God. (Lev. 8:10-11; 2 Chron. 7:16) We, too are holy vessels in the house of the Lord. ( 1 Cor. 6:15) * Our bodies are declared holy vessels by God * He has anointed us, put His Spirit in us, set a seal of ownership upon us-the Lord knows those who are His (Eph. 4:30) Satan’s number one goal is attempting to desecrate what God has declared holy. (1 Cor. 3: 16,17; 6: 12-20; 1 Thess. 4) * What Belshazzar did to these vessels in his drunken orgy is exactly what the devil tries to do with us * The devil’s greatest glee is to see us give our bodies over to an unholy cause * Sexual sin is an assault against our body. When we lose the battle, we wear this sin and its shame as no other * Mene, Mene-to number, tekel-to weigh, peres-to divide God has number the days of your reign and brought it to an end. You have been weighed on the scales and found wanting Your kingdom is divided and given to the Medes and Persians Vessels that have been treated as unholy can be treated as holy again. (Ezra 1:2,7-8; 8:28-29)
